Before we begin this edition, PeopleStrong pays our tribute to one of the tallest figures of India's dynamic business world.

Is your HR technology falling short of delivering the ROI you anticipated? Is it a Tech or People problem?

SaaS sprawl is a thing that CIOs are worried about, with an average organization using about 211 applications. HR is no stranger to this with the average number of applications going up to 16.24 from 8.85 pre-pandemic. Yet, curiously, A Gartner study shows that 56% of HR leaders confirmed their HR technology solutions and strategy do not match their current and future business needs. PeopleStrong research shows that 68% of CHROs are not able to drive value out of their HR Tech systems.

This begs the question. Is this a tech issue or a strategy issue or a people issue?

A case in point was the recent viral story of an HR Team who found themselves out of a job because their AI-based screening system rejected a test application from the hiring manager as they were screening for the wrong keywords.

Here’s a thinking framework for setting up a HR stack:

1. Categorize HR tech tools into must-haves and good-to-haves.

2. Meet goals or the tool goes: Set clear, measurable goals and deadlines for each tool.

3. Mandate utilization in the beginning with a top-down approach to ensure adoption.

4. Train your HR teams to become advocates of technology. Tech readiness should be a tracked metric for the HR team.

5. You don't need 15 HR tools to get work done. Consolidate your tech stack to 3-4 powerful tools that integrate seamlessly, fostering a smooth flow of information and reducing complexity.

We spoke to some of the top HR leaders in the country to understand how they went about upgrading their HR stack.

“Legacy HR systems often struggle with long, complex implementations and inflexibilities, making them far less agile compared to modern SaaS solutions. This prompts organizations to rethink their HR tech stacks." - Upnivesh Bhardwaj, General Manager - HR, Paytm

"Our journey started right at the evaluation stage, and because we had ample time, we used it wisely to understand our needs and were well-prepared when implementation began." - Tina Muthoot, Deputy Vice President, Muthoot Capital Services Ltd - India

Our latest ebook - Beating the Legacy Trap: The Ultimate Guide to Modernize HR Tech covers insights from these leaders and a step-by-step approach to building an agile HR Tech stack.
