Ozempic and Mounjaro – What You Should Know
[This article is republished from https://community.canmar.io/articles/303]
I have been on both Ozempic and Mounjaro and I would like to share my experiences because I think many people are curious. I am not a medical clinician by any stretch of the imagination, so please take that into consideration. I am merely an individual diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and have been on one or other of the two drugs mentioned above for probably 10 years or so.
First off, the two drugs have kept my insulin and A1C readings at good levels. I would say that both drugs have worked well in that capacity.
But here is what most people want to know about the drugs – yes – I lost 70 lbs while on the drugs. But there is more information that I think you will find useful about the weight loss … read on.
When I initially started on Ozempic, I lost about 12 pounds, not really changing my (bad) eating habits at all and not exercising. About two years ago, I change two healthy elements of my life and saw dramatic change of weight (over a long period of time). I stopped eating sweets and sugars. Yes, I get sugar in common food products like red sauce and other foods, but I stopped eating dessert sweets, cake, candies, etc. For me, sugar is a massive addictive drug. I would crave it. I eliminated sweets and desserts and feel that even one taste will start me on addictive eating behaviors. I am still not great with carbs but have reduced comparative to previous carb consumption.
I think the main factor of the substantial weight loss has been continuous exercise – basically an hour every other day for the past two years. When I started this regiment, I started to continuously lose about a pound to two each week. I credit this to the combination of exercise, better eating (still not great), and the “miracle drugs.”
From my experience, Ozempic and Mounjaro work in two ways: 1) They definitely cut down appetite – I eat less portions and less often. 2) They work on me psychologically – I work from a home office, and I used to think about food non-stop, snack throughout the day. What really amazes me is that I not only cut my appetite but also my relationship with food has completely change inside my head. I have a friend (skinny as could be) who said to me, “I forget to eat. I never think about food.” These were foreign words to me. I could not fathom that. Food has been like an addictive drug to me. But both Ozempic and Mounjaro changed that.
Last note here – I am not sure of the medical composition of the two drugs, but I do feel like my experience on both has been slightly different. No scientific results, but I do feel like Ozempic has work more to fill me up (not just when eating but keeping me feeling full for a long period of time) and Mounjaro works more on me psychologically meaning thinking (or not actually) about food. Yes, the reverse is true for both (Ozempic – psychological and Mounjaro – digestive filling up). While I have attributed the key experiences to each, both do work both ways – in a digestive and psychological realm. But Ozempic seems a bit more digestive remedied and Mounjaro seems a bit psychological remedied. I could be scientifically completely off on this but that has been my own experience.

6moAre you still taking one or the other? I’m curious about what happens if/when people discontinue the medication without developing healthy habits. Does the weight come back? The longterm costs seem to be the most prohibitive part of these medications.
