Outspoken Women: A resource for women and non-binary individuals who speak about open source technologies.

Outspoken Women: A resource for women and non-binary individuals who speak about open source technologies.

Outspoken Women started out as an idea. The idea sprouted from the fact that I was hearing and reading a lot of requests for women open source technical speakers and that they were hard to find. Being in the open source tech industry, I knew there wasn't many women in the industry, let alone many women that are proficient or willing to speak at events. Why hasn't someone built an awesome website showcasing all these fabulous, rare-breed women?

When I realized that such a thing didn't exist, I decided to build it myself. Outspoken Women is a site where women (and non-binary individuals) can add themselves as speakers and where event organizers can add their events and call for speakers. While I was writing the outline of how I wanted the site to function, I realized that a mentorship program could help grow our small community.

Today, the site has a Speakers and Events area, but it also includes areas for News, Stories and Women in the Wild. Women in the Wild is a place for people to submit photos of our speakers while they are at events, speaking. We are currently building our mentorship program and are excited for the possibilities it will bring. We are also ramping up our sponsorship offerings, which we are hoping to include a pool of funds to offer to women who are asked to speak at events that can not afford the travel accommodations.

Over the last 3 months the site has grown from a simple idea to an amazing resource for women who are open source technical speakers.

Want to get involved? Help us spread the word, offer to volunteer and help us grow, add yourself as a speaker, add an event you are organizing or inquire about sponsorship opportunities over at http://outspokenwomen.io.
