Newsflash -- You're Not an Island
Not only is building a business hard but trying to do it alone is even harder.
One of the most transformational moments in life and business is the moment when you accept you don't have the time or expertise to do everything yourself.
Trying to do everything on your own is a great way to burn yourself out in the long run and it can limit your ability to take advantage of the expertise and resources available to help you grow.
Without help, you can easily become overwhelmed and frustrated. You may find yourself making slow progress or even worse, spinning your wheels with no progress at all.
My best piece of advice: don't do business by yourself.
Reach out and build up your network! Find contacts with more time or expertise than yourself who can help you figure out solutions, provide feedback and be a sounding board.
Here are two key tips on how to ask for help:
- Know what you need: What is the specific problem or opportunity you need help with? What resources or expertise do you need to address it? By being clear on what you need, you'll be able to ask for help in a way that is more beneficial to you and the person you're asking.
- Be clear about what you want: Once you've identified what you need, be specific about how you would like to receive help. Do you want advice, feedback, or just someone to talk through an idea with?
Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength. Don't be afraid to reach out and build up your support group so you can take advantage of the time and resources available to help you succeed. When you do, you'll be able to make faster progress and reach your goals more easily.
I'd love to hear from this newsletter's readers: Have you ever had someone give you advice that helped you make a major breakthrough? What was it?
