Myth no: 59 - Take A Break From Your Marketing During December
With Christmas 2020 and Christmas 2021 hijacked by COVID, most of us are intent on making Christmas 2022 a great time of celebration.
Already, the celebrations are underway and everything seems to be starting even earlier this year (or is that just my age?)
Either way, one of the common conversations I am having with clients and prospects about marketing goes something like this:
"Nobody is around during December so I think we'll pick it up again in January"
Let's just break the first part of that statement down:
PART ONE: Nobody is around during December
Nobody is around!
REALLY?
Where did everybody go?
Has everybody disappeared?
In contrast to the perception that NOBODY is around during December, LinkedIn did a study in 2016 and found December engagement to be 32% higher than the average month.
So it's quite likely that YOUR clients and prospects are using LinkedIn MORE rather than less during December!
Interesting...
PART TWO: We'll pick things up again in January
A book that has changed my life is The Compound Effect by DARREN HARDY - it's about the importance of making small and consistent changes and the positive effect they have over time. Conversely, making small negative changes will also snowball the other way over time.
I started exercising for at least 30 minutes a day and am now approaching 300 consecutive days. I lost 25 pounds in weight and am much stronger and fitter than before, not to mention sharper at work and "more relational" at home!
Here's the point - we all know deep down that consistency is responsible for most of the success in the world - but yet we're happy to let things go in December because "it's Christmas".
I have found that over 90% of the clients I have worked with in the past, who have "taken a break" never actually resume their marketing again. They get stuck in developing their product and are "too busy" to pick things up again.
So apart from increased December activity on LinkedIn and the importance of consistency, what are reasons are there to keep your marketing going during December?
Virtually ZERO competition
If most people believe the lies above, there's less marketing happening on LinkedIn!
The prospects are still there but the marketing is:
- Easier - less competition
- Cheaper - less competition
- Faster - quicker results, less competition
Why else do they have TV ads on Christmas Day? Less competition, more people sitting at home with money to spend...
What next?
If you have a consistent marketing strategy, keep it going!
If not and you want to see how you can get more clients from LinkedIn )and take advantage of less competition during December), then:
