MOTHER NATURE SENT YOU TO YOUR ROOM- NOW YOU HAVE 1 JOB
If you’re not taking the time now to take care of yourself, you’re probably headed in the wrong direction. We’ve all had conversations with friends (or ourselves) admitting to drinking more or putting on the infamous “Quarantine 15."
I get it, you’re surrounded by way too much outer chaos to take a peek at your inner self. Life is just not as simple as it was, say, four months ago.
Ah, remember life before quarantine? When we were way too on-the-go to take care of ourselves. In the morning, we needed to prepare breakfast for the kids. The gym was too far a commute from the office to get an early workout in. We had a business lunch in the calendar, so a midday walk was out. As for healthy eating, the company cafeteria was doing Mac & Cheese Mondays, and since no one went food shopping last weekend dinner often came out of a box or a can. That restaurant chicken dish was fantastic and seemed healthy if you ignored your suspicion that a stick of butter was probably what made it so mouth-watering.
So … now that offices, commutes and restaurants are mere memories, we thankfully have no excuses and plenty of free time. Right?
Wait, what?
Oh, I see. Well, sure, home-schooling the kids burns a lot of time and energy. The dishes do never seem to be done. It’s hard to be on the Peloton during a Zoom call. Yes, a trip to the supermarket in a mask and gloves is daunting. Opening and closing the fridge and cabinets all day in search of snacks can feel like a form of entertainment, and it’s true you do have to pass through the kitchen to shut the lights on the way to the bedroom. And if time doesn’t matter and you don’t know what day it is anyway, 4 o’clock on Tuesday seems like the perfect time to crack open a bottle of wine.
Turns out, there actually is no good time to decide to be the healthiest version of yourself. Which means any moment is as good as any other. So may I suggest this very one?
There’s simply never been a better time to change your narrative and prioritize your health. You’ve actually never had more time.
Act as if your life depends on it, because it literally does.

4yGreat piece Lauren- thank you! More now than ever we need to really take care of ourselves, eat healthier and build up strong immune systems. Another thing COVID has taught me during the lockdown is I don't need as much (material things) as I thought I did pre-covid. Really opened my eyes. Heard a great quote the other day - "living a simpler life doesn't mean an impoverished life".
