Microsoft Teams - The answer to Engaging Millennials In the Workplace

Microsoft Teams on Wednesday made a push for Millennials in the workplace, debuting as the most significant addition to Office 365 in years. Oh, and its already earned the moniker – rightly so – as a Slack Killer.

 Poor Slack. Here comes Microsoft!

With Microsoft Teams, I can meet virtually with co-workers and vendors in private chat rooms, or debate where to order-in for lunch. Social collaboration at work? Can you say productivity? I’m sold! It’s the cooler, more social work platform that Millennials embrace to transform the mundane into money for their companies.

Sorry Slack. Microsoft is taking over the social work space.

Microsoft Teams also includes a desktop client for Windows and Mac (imagine that!) and mobile apps. Let’s not forget the oh-so-important emojis, gifs and stickers (Don’t worry, admins can turn these features off).

Sounds like Microsoft Teams is “borrowing” a well-liked feature of Slack, which creates engagement around work, so it’s less “Oh my goodness; another email,” and more “hmm let’s see what the team is working on…” Sounds like increased productivity, and happier employees. And happier employees are easier to retain.

So, yeah. I’m sold.

Before you take Teams for a test drive, you do have to enable the feature in the Admin Center (Admins I can hear your sigh of relief). No it’s not being pushed out, so you have time to plan for your deployment.

How to Enable Microsoft Teams

After enabling the feature, a few folks had some problems getting to the new release (including me). But here’s the workaround – download the desktop application from the Teams site https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads. You’ll be able to create your teams, channels, and chats instantly.
