Medical Memo to Sales Managers: RMV Warning

Medical Memo to Sales Managers:

Please be aware of a new selling strain of the Recession Mind Virus (RMS) that is currently infecting salespeople in your industry.

What is RMS

It's an insidious form of thinking that disables your Sales Motor Skills (SMS) and causes excruciating, hard-to-listen-to Verbal Excuse Vomit (VEV) containing irrational reasons as to why you can't sell more. VEV has also been known to cause sales managers' ears to bleed profusely.

Origin of RMS

Some theorize it was created in a lab while others say it was first contracted in a cave on the remote Island of SellingNada during a Sales Conference (i.e., a Boondoggle).

Treatment

There are 3 known verbal doses you can share with your sales team to cure them or prevent them from contracting RMS:

Dose 1: “No economy stands still; someone is always buying” is the mantra you should invoke when salespeople ‘whine’ about not being able to find/close deals.

Dose 2: Repeat to them that a recession provides two key sales opportunities: (a) serve existing clients better and, (b) oust a competitor who isn’t serving.

Dose 3: Recessions always squeeze out the excess (i.e., competitors) in a market when competitors go under or have fewer resources which in turn provides them more opportunities to poach their clients. Have them chant, "It's not a recession, it's an opportunity".

Manager Instructions

Administer any or all 3 doses as often as you feel necessary. If they continue to show signs of going negative, inject them again until the dosage takes effect!
