Kelly Lyons, she/her/hers, Outbound SDR Manager

What’s your 2-sentence autobiography?

Hi there, I’m Kelly! I graduated from Cal Poly SLO and currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love reading, working out, playing piano, traveling with my friends, and hanging out at home with my 5 younger siblings.

What is your background prior to working for Monte Carlo?

Prior to Monte Carlo, I worked in Sales Development at Twilio Segment, first as an Outbound SDR and then as an SDR Manager.

Why did you choose to work for Monte Carlo?

The people and the product. Every person I’ve gotten to interact with at Monte Carlo inspires me and has clear conviction about how we can help our customers. I also love the fact that our founders, Barr and Lior, are truly invested in every part of our organization.

Our product is also very relevant and differentiated in the market. At my previous company, data quality would come up in nearly every customer and prospect conversation. We’re solving a real problem in a very innovative way, and it’s exciting to help position MC in the market.

What do you appreciate most about working for Monte Carlo?

I really appreciate the fact that all teams (from Product, to Sales, to Marketing) are united behind a common goal: making our customers as successful as possible by developing the best data observability platform on the market.  Everything at MC is incredibly fast-paced, fun, and challenging - and the work we’re doing is that much more exciting when you can feel that the entire company is aligned.

What are you passionate about outside of Sales?

Spending time with my family and friends, including my Golden Retriever puppy, Buddy. I also love trying new restaurants and being active!

How did you get interested in your field of work?

I had the opportunity to intern for a software company in college, and was immediately drawn to the energy that surrounded the SDR role as I shadowed the team. It’s a very unique role - It enables people early-on in their careers to make a huge impact on a business.

I also love the balance of art and science that my current role entails. I get to create new messaging and tools to help SDRs learn, measure their impact, and iterate continuously.

I believe that the SDR role is a foundational part of a customer-facing career. I was lucky enough to have incredible managers who invested in me when I was an SDR, and I love being part of an SDR’s journey to maximizing their potential.

If you could describe yourself with one word, what would it be and why?

After getting some input from family and friends (this was a tough one!), I would describe myself as driven. I love learning, stretching myself, and making a positive impact on the people in my life. It’s important to me that I’m intentional in the ways that I spend my time and with the interactions I get to have with people.

One of our MC values is “Measure in Minutes”, which means that we move as quickly as we can while doing quality work. Incorporating this value into my work has challenged me to be even more focused to make the most out of every minute.

One of our company values is “beat the odds”. What does “beat the odds” mean to you?

“Beat the Odds” means setting goals that push me out of my comfort zone, and having the imagination and grit to find a way to achieve them. It also means having the humility to ask for help when you need it - something I learned firsthand as an SDR!

If you could pause your life for just one moment, what moment would that be and why?

Lake Tahoe is my favorite place in the world (summer > winter in my opinion!). I would pause time at the lake at sunset with my family and closest friends.

How do you recharge?

I love taking lunchtime walks with my dad (a daily habit, thanks to WFH!), reading a great book (Where The Crawdads Sing gets a 10/10 rating from me), or taking a Pilates class with friends.

What’s the one takeaway you want people to know about you?

I believe that you can learn something from everyone - I’m always excited to meet new people and hear their story!
