Looking to CES 2025, New Health Standards & Our Year in Review

Can you believe fall is almost here? As we look back at all that's happened this year, we're also getting excited for CES 2025 in Las Vegas — we hope to see you there!

Plus, keep reading for our latest research, the newest additions to our portfolio of digital health standards, and the opportunity to get involved in Digital Health Startup Day this September.

📅 1 Big Thing: A Look Back and What’s Next

We’re gearing up for some exciting gatherings that will connect the health community for important conversations.

  • In September, we’ll kick things off with a co-hosted event with Maverick Health Policy, followed by key discussions at the fall edition of Health AI+.

  • On September 26, don’t miss the chance to participate in CTA’s Digital Health Startup Day, co-hosted by the Congressional Digital Health Caucus. The event includes a Health Innovation Showcase in the Rayburn Foyer, afternoon policy discussions with Congressional staff, and a networking reception.

Now, let’s take a moment to celebrate a snapshot of the incredible strides our digital health community has made this year.

January:

  • At CES 2024, we hosted an exhilarating Digital Health Summit, followed by the inaugural meeting of the Health AI Collaborative to educate policymakers on AI.

February:

  • Launched the first “Congressional Digital Health Caucus” with Congressman Troy Balderson (R-OH) and Congresswoman Robin Kelly (D-IL), fostering dialogue among government, private sector, and healthcare experts.

March:

  • Released the “What is Health AI?” brief, creating a common understanding of AI in healthcare among regulators, developers, and public health stakeholders.

April:

The OTC Hearing Aid Group meets at HealthFuture Summit.

May

  • Partnered with AdvaMed to host a Congressional Digital Health Caucus briefing on the impact and promise of remote patient monitoring.

June

  • Co-hosted the HealthAI+ Symposium at Havard Medical School, bringing together tech and healthcare leaders for discussions on AI in healthcare.

  • Signed a letter urging Congress to extend current Medicare telehealth policies.

3. 💡 Standards Spotlight

Two new standards have been added to CTA’s digital health portfolio!

  • CTA published its 30th digital health standard, CTA-2113 — “Best Practices and Recommendations for Telehealth Solutions.”

  • This standard offers a comprehensive framework for integrating telehealth solutions into the healthcare system, for various use cases such as acute care, post-acute care, chronic care, and telehealth visits.

  • Why it matters: This standard helps overcome the barriers and challenges of implementing and scaling telehealth solutions, such as technological, regulatory, and organizational issues.

We also recently published “Methodology of Measurements for Features in Sleep Tracking Consumer Technology Devices and Applications.”

  • Developed in partnership with National Sleep Foundation, this standard defines the methodology for measuring elemental parameters used in consumer technology devices and applications designed to evaluate sleep.

  • Get Involved: The Sleep Working Group recently launched a project on Guiding Principles on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Sleep Quality. Reach out to help shape this important work.

Join the New Women’s Health Technologies Working Group:

  • We are excited to announce the launch of our new working group, R11 WG17, focused on women's health technologies.

  • This group will develop standards, recommended practices, and technical reports related to women’s health technology and advise other groups inside of R11 how best to ensure that women’s health factors are included in design.

4. 📈 The Latest Industry Forecast is Here


This report is complimentary for CTA members (a $2000 value).

CTA projects U.S. consumer technology revenues to grow by 4.4% to $527 billion in 2025, after a third consecutive year of declining hardware revenues. The overall consumer tech industry is expected to grow by 1% to $505 billion in 2024, up from $500 billion in 2023.

Why It Matters:  Prices for tech devices consistently track below core inflation, making them some of the most deflationary items in the U.S. consumer price index. This trend highlights the technology sector’s role in reducing costs and driving innovation, which benefits consumers and businesses alike.

Key Digital Health Insights:

  • Overall, the digital health hardware industry is projected to grow to $6.5 billion in shipment revenues in 2024, which is a 1.2% increase from 2023.

  • The industry is seeing deflationary implications across health tech devices with an average wholesale price decrease of 4%.

  • CTA expects double digit unit shipment growth for OTC hearing aids (15%) and connected monitoring devices (10%) from 2023 to 2024.

  • Consumer spending on health and fitness services are expected to reach over $1 billion for the first time ever, an increase of more than 17% from 2023.

  • Digital therapeutic services are expected to generate over $375 million, an increase of over 37% from last year. Fitness subscription services are expected to generate over $680 million, an increase of over 8% from last year.
