Go Luxembourg!

O.M.F.G, thermidorks<!!!

There’s been so much going on these last few days – and that’s even before we get to all of the drama/action/cray-crayness that shook out during ICBC Berlin...

BIG news right now however, is that Luxembourg has legalised adult use/recreational cannabis – pipping Germany to the post and becoming the second EU state to do so! More on that below.

Got a story you’d like to share? For this newsletter or our podcast, the lobsterpot<? Well then message us, people!!!

“Now voyager read thou forth to seek and find.”

Walt Whitman (kinda)

What The F-uxembourg!?!

As small EU nations legalising adult use cannabis go (hey Malta!) Luxembourg wasn’t necessarily the country anyone thought would succumb to the seductive charms of sativa next. But guess what? IT HAPPENED PEOPLE!!

Sure, getting things in some regulatory/workable/sane order will take some time, but for now the lucky Luxembourgeois can possess, consume, and cultivate up to 3 grams of green.

Who’s next?? Form an orderly EU queue…

Data Shows Deep Downturn

Cannabis data don, Beau Whitney, is your go-to guy when it comes to getting the sensible stats (as demo’d during ICBC Berlin last week). So when his company’s latest report shows that less than a quarter (24.4%) of US cannabis businesses were profitable during Q4 2022, you’d better believe it’s true.

And when you discover that this is a 41% drop from the previous year’s Q4, well… you get the idea that *SOMETHING* major needs to happen to get things back on track.

Mary(Jane)land

Time for some good news from across the Pond! Maryland has become the 21st state to legalise recreational cannabis – just in time for Independence Day!

As dispensaries opened for business across the state this past Saturday (July 1st), budtenders happily touted their pre-rolls, edibles, bevs, vape carts, and flower to help consumers get high… ready for 4th July.

More of this please.

CBDemonised

It super sucks to be a canna-fan in the UK (most of the time). So when we learn that the Home Office is essentially c*ckblocking Channel Islands-based Jersey Hemp with some BS about its CBD products being ‘illegal controlled substances’ – despite being on UK shelves since 2020 –  well… we get a bit riled up.

Apparently, they’ve shut down ops and marketing with immediate effect. WTAF?

Marley, Marijuana, and Mushrooms??

Though best known for – among many other things – being culturally synonymous with ganja culture, it transpires that the Caribbean island of Jamaica is fast becoming a haven for magic mushroom munchers too.

Turns out the nation never actually outlawed the cultivation of psilocybin-based fungi. And while those visitors in the know have enjoyed their ‘trips’ on the island for a while, now it seems politicians are all about promoting the “huge potential of spiritual health as a tourist product”.

(Not So) High Office

Wow! A politician telling the truth! In what’s struggling to be recognised as ‘news’, it transpires that the UK’s favourite one man political sh*tshow and meat puppet extraordinaire, Michael Gove (former Education Secretary, now, largely bloated by multiple responsibilities) partook in cannabis use during his Oxford student days. But fret not! It wasn’t that strong. So that’s ok.
