Lessons on leadership from Leadcast

Last May, Essi Weseri and I started a podcast series called Leadcast - Inspiroivia uratarinoita. In this podcast, we discuss with inspiring business leaders and professionals about their career paths, successes and failures, values and leadership. With the first season of Leadcast being wrapped up and the second season kicking off, now is a good time to reflect on some of our key take-aways, that we also thought might interest you:

  • Authenticity: Perhaps a bit surprising, all our guests have emphasized the importance of being authentic. Truly knowing who you are, strengths and weaknesses included, is key to being a good leader. As so eloquently phrased by Risto Siilasmaa, “Nothing is more difficult than trying to be someone else than yourself.”
  • Focus: Most of our guests have stressed the need to prioritize and focus. Focusing on things with the highest impact will lead to the desired results. Remember your ultimate priorities and stop doing things of less importance.
  • Trust: Nothing is more important. You have to have trust in your team, cultivate their motivation and enable their growth. This of course requires you to trust in yourself, which comes through authenticity.

In addition to these leadership lessons, we also recognized a common characteristic in pretty much all our guests: their curiosity and growth mindset. We have been extremely impressed; whereas one takes coding lessons, another has become an expert in AI, and a third studies physics as a hobby. We have learned to make a podcast ourselves, but our guests have really inspired us to start thinking about what else we want to learn next!

Would you like to learn more? Our podcast is available e.g. in Apple Podcasts, SoundCloudSpotifyAnchor and on our website leadcast.fi. Thank you to all our fantastic guests and listeners, stay tuned for more!
