Last month we hosted a group of international buyers to showcase ASC certified salmon farming on the islands of Hitra and Frøya in Norway. Over the four-day tour attendees from multinational retailers were welcomed to the facilities and farms of Leroy, Salmar and Mowi. The tour was supported by Control Union Norge and provided buyers with firsthand insight into salmon farming and demonstrated the role of ASC certification in responsible aquaculture. We have a new visual dashboard showcasing updated features such as comparison tools, interactive maps and charts. Jill Swasey, ASC Director of Impacts, Monitoring & Evaluation says “The redesigned dashboard uses the latest data visualisation techniques to make it easier for users to view and collect information on ASC’s impact. Visualising data and allowing users to filter to geographies and years of interest and export chart images can help businesses, producers, and retailers make informed business decisions". Taprobane Seafoods (Pvt) Ltd’ Erukkalampidy shrimp farm has become Sri Lanka’s first to achieve ASC certification. They collaborated with FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, to obtain it. Investing in responsible aquaculture proves to be good not only for the people but also for the planet. Japanese farm Izumisawa Suisan has become the first commercial farm to achieve ASC certification for its cherry salmon production. Cherry salmon, named for its pink cherry-coloured scales, boasts a refined, light flesh colour and delicate fat. Izumisawa Suisan’s President Hiroshi Izumisawa said, “We are very honoured to have our achievements in responsible aquaculture recognised.” Learn more about this milestone.
