November Jobs Report

Happy Holidays Friday!

With less than 30 days to go in 2024, we hope you have had an excellent start to the holiday season. As cliché as it is, the years do go by fast, so please take the time to pause and enjoy moments with family and friends over the coming weeks.

As we turn the page on another year and make our way to various holiday events (see you at the Maryland Chapter NAIOP Holiday Lunch today), we will reflect on the year. Most take the glass half-empty approach, hoping 2025 will be the big one; however, the US Economy might say it’s never been stronger…we might not be able to argue.

After a weak October jobs report, November was a resurgence, with 227,000 net new jobs created for the month. Unemployment ticked up to 4.2%, leading us to believe we are as solid as we could ask for. With a few unknown factors in the rearview mirror, we start to reflect on the employment market for the year. Through November, job gains in 2024 averaged 180k per month, right in line with 2010 to 2019, the most extended period of job expansion on record.

For November and the year overall, job gains continued to be dominated by Healthcare, Leisure & Hospitality, and Government. As we enter 2025 with a strong economy and a balanced employment market, it will be interesting to see where continual economic growth comes from and how the market will respond to the ever-competitive war on talent.
