Introducing: Marcia N. Armstrong, Founder & CEO of A Purpose Life
What is an Entrepreneur?
An entrepreneur is an individual who creates a new business, bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards. The process of setting up a business is known as entrepreneurship. Introduction
Today we feature the story of Marcia Armstrong.
Marcia is a thought-leader in the financial literacy industry and an advocate of personal development. She specialises in helping visionary career women maximise their income so that they can leverage their skills, influence, and impact to create generational wealth.
Q. What events led you to this path and how long have you been in business?
A. I have been in business for two years. A prayer about giving resulted in me paying off a 4-year loan in one year. This opened the door for me to show other women how to steward their finances and in the process enrich their life.
Q. How did you come up with the name for your business?
A. God gave me the name A Purpose Life in August 2019. When I heard it, it did not make sense to me and I had a situation where I was completing an application form and on the form, it asked for my business name. I attempted to put something else in the field, and the name 'A Purpose Life' automatically populated. So God confirmed what he said and operating in obedience, I registered the name in January 2020.
I then received the revelation of what it meant. The business was not created for me to just help women with the practical side of money.
A Purpose Life was created to help liberate women using the vehicle of finance so that they could live 'A Purpose Life'.
Q. Who has been your biggest supporter on your journey?
A. My mom will always be my #1 fan, but I give this title to my collaborator and dear friend Mrs. Dionne Greaves, The Mompreneur CEO. She has seen me in the valley as well as on the mountain top and I couldn’t ask for a better person to run this journey with me.
Q. What is the one biggest challenge you have faced so far and how did you overcome it?
A. My biggest challenge entering entrepreneurship was my mindset as I was still operating as an employee in my business.
At one point I realized that I had become a slave to a business I created to give me freedom and that was a wake-up call that led me to shift how I showed up in the world.
Q. Did the pandemic affect your business in anyway i.e. did you have to implement a Plan B due to Covid-19?
A. Given that my business is primarily online and started at the height of the pandemic, Covid-19 did not impact me in a negative way. If anything it fueled me to think differently as crises open doors of opportunities and you have to be positioned to see them.
Q. What are your top 3 goals for the future?
A. My top three goals are:
- Become an international bestselling author in 2022; right now I'm writing my last chapter before editing on my book begins.
- Generate more profit for my business through the hiring of staff so that I can attract the ideal women I’ve been called to serve, and
- Participate in more speaking engagements, not only domestically but globally; I have a message that needs to be heard and my voice will not be muffled.
Q. Name one thing that you currently do to go above and beyond your clients’/customers’ expectations.
A. I provide a safe space for my clients to discuss their finances without guilt, shame or embarrassment. They’re able to design a life that they want to live vs. have to live. Therefore, money is viewed holistically because once a woman recognizes the power she carries, the world will take notice.
Q. How do you find your clients/customers?
A. Most of my clients come from the content I post online, particularly on LinkedIn. My main platform is Linkedin but I also post on Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok because social media is your virtual real estate. Ideally, you place more focus on where your people are. The aim is to be consistent in your content where you speak to the issues they're facing and provide an avenue where you show the transformation they could receive by investing in themselves. Additionally, my clients refer my services to others.
I've also reached out to corporations to build key relationships because my strategy is to have a one:many approach.
Q. What was the best advice you ever received and who gave it to you?
A. This is a tough one because I have such a great support system, but I’ll say that the best advice came from one of my coaches, Samantha Gooden.
She said to me: “People do not buy a product/service, they buy you, so show up as your authentic self because you are their solution.”
Q. How do you spend your free time?
A. I am very adventurous! There is a joy I have that cannot be measured. I love driving around the country and experiencing the fullness of life. I am an avid reader especially in areas of wealth and purpose. I’m also a foodie; I love visiting restaurants and giving food reviews!
Q. What is something most people do not know about you?
A. That I’ve never been trained in public speaking. Every time I speak on a platform, I get lots of feedback about how I’m such a powerful speaker and when I indicate that I’ve never been formally trained, people are literally in shock. It happened recently at my last event, the EmpowerHer Conference.
Q. What advice would you offer to anyone thinking of becoming a full-time entrepreneur?
A. I would say to use the Power of One in your approach to business, that is: One Offer, One Ideal Client, One Problem, One Solution. Money loves speed and you can’t build wealth with a scattered mind or fractured focus - because a confused audience does not buy.
Q. You also found time to create the Wealth Mastery Roadmap programme - what led to its creation?
A. In our society we've seen more women operate as the breadwinner and leaders of their households.
However, a gap exists where women still operate below their full potential and aren't fully awakened to the options that they have and hence conform to society's culture.
For example, being afraid to ask for what they deserve as well as having the confidence to apply for roles that they aren't 100% qualified for. On this basis, I wanted to create a programme where women are financially empowered to show up as women of wealth who are not afraid to challenge the status quo.
⏩ What services/products do you offer your clients and how do potential customers find you?
A. My company offers the following services:
- 1:1 Financial Consultations
- Group Coaching Program
- Done For You Services
- DIY Services
- Speaking Engagements
- Digital Products
- Online & In-Person Workshops
