An Interactive Donation Experience ✍️

An Interactive Donation Experience ✍️

It’s a busy time of year, and donors are flooded with appeals.

So how do you make your campaign stand out?

This organization tested a sliding bar on their campaign donation page that allowed donors to adjust their gift to see the corresponding impact in real-time.

The result? More engagement, more donations, and more recurring gifts. Let’s break it down. 👇

Hypothesis

Allowing donors to select the level of their impact dynamically will increase donor conversion during a high-urgency campaign by increasing the perceived clarity and appeal of the donation page.

Why’s this worth testing?

The treatment gives donors agency or the ability to feel in control of their decision.

By allowing them to adjust the sliding bar and immediately see how their gift amount correlates to impact, donors are more engaged and motivated to give at a level that feels meaningful to them.

Additionally, this transparency helps build trust and connection, reducing uncertainty and making the donation process feel more rewarding.

Control

The control version simply calls out the number of people that would be reached with a donor’s gift.

Treatment

The treatment version uses an interactive slider to change the gift amount in correspondence with the number of people it would reach.

Results

The sliding bar led to a 37.4% increase in donations and a 33% increase in recurring gifts. Providing donors with this interactive tool made the giving process more engaging and meaningful, driving significant results during the campaign.

Some tips for testing this and other ideas

  1. Consider adding interactive elements, like a sliding bar or impact calculator, to your donation page. Could this increase engagement and trust with your donors?
  2. Test how the sliding bar is framed. Does showing specific examples of impact for each gift level (e.g., “$50 provides meals for 5 families”) resonate more with your audience?
  3. Experiment with messaging around the sliding bar. Could language like “Choose your impact” or “See how you can help” enhance the donor’s sense of control?
