How to write copy that sells
Copywriting is the art and science of writing words that persuade people to take action. Whether you want to sell a product, a service, a course, or an idea, you need to write copy that convinces your audience to buy from you.
But how do you write copy that sells? 🤔💭
Here are some tips to help you craft compelling copy that converts.
Know your audience 🧑🤝🧑: Before you write anything, you need to understand who you are writing for. What are their pain points, goals, desires, fears, and objections? What are their demographics, psychographics, and preferences? How do they talk, think, and feel? The more you know about your audience, the better you can tailor your copy to their needs and wants.
Write a catchy headline 📰: Your headline is the first thing that your audience will see, and it will determine whether they will read the rest of your copy or not. Your headline should grab their attention, spark their curiosity, and make them want to know more. Use power words, numbers, questions, or promises to create a headline that stands out.
Focus on benefits, not features ❤️: People don’t buy products or services, they buy solutions to their problems. They don’t care about what your offer does, they care about what it can do for them. So, instead of listing the features of your offer, highlight the benefits that your audience will get from it. How will it make their life easier, better, happier, or more successful? Use emotional triggers, stories, and testimonials to show them the value of your offer.
Use clear and concise language ✨: Your copy should be easy to read and understand by your audience. Avoid jargon, slang, or technical terms that might confuse them. Use short sentences, paragraphs, and bullet points to break up your text and make it more scannable. Use active voice, verbs, and adjectives to make your copy more lively and engaging. And use transitions, connectors, and subheadings to guide your audience through your copy and keep them interested.
Include a strong call to action ✅: The last step of your copy is to tell your audience what you want them to do next. This is your call to action, or CTA. Your CTA should be clear, specific, and urgent. Tell your audience exactly what action you want them to take, how to take it, and why they should take it now. Use words like “buy”, “sign up”, “download”, “join”, or “start” to create a sense of urgency and action. And make your CTA stand out by using a different color, size, or shape for your button or link.
These are some of the basic principles of copywriting that can help you write copy that sells. Of course, there is more to learn and practice, but these tips can get you started on your copywriting journey.
