How To Host A (Rockstar) Clubhouse Session

Clubhouse is all the rage — but how do you host a room people love staying in for hours on end?

Today, Ship 30 for 30 hosted a Clubhouse session focused around Writing Tweets & Stories That Go Viral. Moderated by Dickie Bush and myself, we had special guest, Craig Clemens, join us as our special guest. Craig is a legend in the copywriting world, but as it turns out, he’s also an incredible Clubhouse host.

If you’re new to the drop-in audio platform and curious about how to host a (rockstar) Clubhouse session yourself, here are some of the best practices I noticed Craig using when moderating today’s panel.

1. Give your room a compelling title.

A great title is how you’re able to attract more listeners than just your own personal audience.

2. Every 20 minutes or so, recap the topic of the room for new listeners.

To make sure new attendees weren’t lost in the dust, Craig would pause between topics/speakers to readdress the crowd and let them know what we were talking about and why.

3. Bring other guest speakers to the stage who have relevant expertise and sizable followings.

Each new guest speaker brought their own audiences, making the room bigger. By the end of our session, we had more than 200 listeners in our Clubhouse room.

4. Hold lightning rounds to keep the pace up.

After a few longwinded answers, Craig would pivot to a lightning round, making sure listeners received a ton of valuable information in a short amount of time.

5. “Hit the + button to invite someone else to the room.”

Throughout the session, Craig would remind listeners to “hit the + button” to invite a friend to come listen. And at the end of the session, he reminded everyone to “hit the bell” to be notified of future rooms hosted by any of us in the future.
