HOW TO BE HEALTHY...INCLUDING MENTALLY

Yes, its mental health awareness week and no, I am not an expert at this but believe that my opinion and life experience will benefit someone.

Mental health is defined as 'a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being.'

Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Looking at the two definitions and buzzwords - condition, well-being, think, feel, act. Now consider this statement below;

"all this pressure seems to be affecting his mental health"

'Pressure' is a good thing if managed - think tyres in your car, balloons, bouncy castles and more. I bet that makes you feel good.

Now think dynamite, explosives, nuclear warhead, outer space - yep scary stuff.

Jack Gaisford had a seriously nuggety post on linkedin today about how he reacted to losing a client account in his business. Initially, the 'pressure' of the action got to him. However, he took a step back and changed his perspective - he thought of his dad, mom, partner, his dog, his other clients and potential businesses that will still come in the future and his whole thought process changed. He became thankful for all he had and immediately felt better and energized to keep on.

Now think if he had dwelt on the thought of how much he had potentially lost, his inability to maximize his potentials, now meeting the yearly budget, having to maybe downsize, close down parts of his business or generally just throw in the towel.

The main cause of poor mental health is our response to external pressure, your best buddy buys a new car you have always wanted - pressure. Boris Johnson doesn't deliver Brexit - pressure. The price of bread goes up at Asda - pressure. Your girlfriend dumps you - pressure. You win 300million in EuroMillions - pressure!

Notice that all these are not potential reasons for taking lives but lives have been taking because of these and more.

To be mentally healthy, have a strategic and continuously evolving roadmap to reduce and eliminate pressure in your life. Seek opportunities to connect with individuals and organizations that can help you out of 'pressuring' situations

Truth is that life is full of pressures and we are the captains of our destinies.

To everyone facing mental health-related issues, decide its not over, decide to win. You have the potential to become someone's superhero.

Learn something new, play the guitar, sing, pray, get social, go on a date, bungee jumping, love, live and enjoy life.

My world needs you mentally healthy
