What to do if your Facebook Ad Account is disabled
Should the 1st thing you do when your Facebook ad account is disabled be to immediately try to run new ads elsewhere?
We know Facebook does not discriminate in its eagerness to ban anyone and everyone – NYU researchers got banned for trying to add transparency to FB.
What I’ve seen happen a lot advertisers immediately go into a tail spin and let panic instead of logic dictate their actions, when advertisers google “ad account disabled facebook.”
You really need to pull out a magnifying glass on your funnel and start to determine which ads have the highest risk, and get specific as to what about them triggered the automations to drop the ban hammer on your ad account.
If you’re like my client Jack Randall, President of Social Flight, you’re tired of beating your head against the wall trying to guess why Facebook has shut you down, and want answers faster.

Diagnose The Problem
I can count on 1 hand how many ad agencies have correctly diagnosed the problem when an ad gets rejected, or an ad account gets banned.
I don’t entirely blame ad agencies because their main goal is to get ads running. But the drawback of taking an ads-first approach misses the tiny flags that may be inherent in your ad copy leading to a repeat shutdown later on if they are not removed.
Diagnosing “ad account disabled facebook” issues means determining what the highest risk elements are in your funnel should be top priority.
Because you want to make sure you have long term success building your brand, retargeting your clients and building client loyalty.
Sadly, quick fixes or using burner accounts won’t achieve this. You’ll want to get specific on why you were shut down and learn from this experience.

What Does It Mean If My Facebook Ad Account Is Disabled? Ad Account Disabled Facebook ?
It could mean more than 1 thing if your ad account is disabled on Facebook. You could have simply had too many ads over too short of a period of time rejected. You could also have been mistakenly flagged as a special ad category.
The problem with this flag is if you use certain words in the wrong context, Facebook could flag and shut you down without questioning if their actions were correct because they’ll assume you didn’t select the special ad category because you’re deliberately Circumventing Systems.
(Check out my article Facebook ad account disabled next steps).
You won’t be able to run ads, and if you do have another ad account that isn’t disabled you’ll be skating thin ice if it’s in the same Facebook Business Manager.
An “ad account disabled facebook” situation means beyond anything else, you’re on the Facebook bot radar, so everything you’ve done on Facebook ads will be under scrutiny.
If you’ve been shutdown a lot but never got answers, you’re like one of my clients, Steve Martinez, Vice President of Apollidon Learning.
“Trevor took us through the process of getting one of our University of Texas ad accounts reinstated (within minutes). He offered some critical insights to why our Facebook Ad Account was disabled and shared options to reduce our chances of future issues. We have a better understand of how the algorithm works and know exactly what to do and say if our account gets disabled again.”

Why Was My Facebook Ad Account Disabled?
The world is a different place today than it was in 2007 when Mark Zuckerberg 1st launched the Facebook ads platform.
I doubt he knew how big this would get. As a result, the business model and the infrastructure at Facebook is similar to a smaller town that exploded in population growth but never had the infrastructure to handle the increased traffic.
Navigating Facebook’s Advertising Policies as a Business is a good read too if you’re looking to go from ignorance on Facebook ad policy to having some clarity on “ad account disabled facebook” issues.
One of the most surprising things to me when I began working at Facebook in ads, then later tech and Project Management was what a shit show the inside of Facebook was, business management principles virtually non-existent.
Facebook’s current strategy is to be in a constant state of damage control, rather than fix the underlying serious issues with how Meta’s automations flag ads.
Ad Account Disabled Facebook: Disapproved ads
Facebook not only keeps track of all user activity to advertise to Facebook users, but also Meta keeps track of your particular history with advertising.
Did you get fired from the last 3 jobs and put each supervisor down as a reference when applying to new jobs?
You’d be better off not mentioning it. Well, with Facebook the automated tools keep track of how many ads you have rejected.
So, to you, it seems like each ad is a fresh new start. In reality, each ad is like a job on your resume at Facebook. After so many times getting fired, it will be a lot harder to get a job right?
The same goes for running Facebook ads. If you’ve had too many rejections it will damage your online reputation with Facebook.
Too many ads rejected leads to an “ad account disabled facebook” problem.

When choosing a payment method, make sure:
➡ Your bank hasn’t rejected too many charges from Facebook ads ➡ That your payment method wasn’t used in another disabled ad account on Facebook ➡ Ensure you’ve contacted your bank ahead of time to whitelist Facebook

Follow these best practices to avoid future payment issues:
The best practices I would suggest for payment method issues – and there is a current bug at Facebook right now for payment methods – is to separate your brands with a new credit card or other form of payment.
Proactively check funds on your card to make sure there are sufficient funds on it, especially towards your monthly bill date. Facebook automatically charges you whenever you reach your payment threshold. Meta charges you again on your monthly bill date for any leftover costs.
Some credit cards have limits for the maximum amount that can be charged in a single transaction. If you have a limit on your credit card, you can decrease your payment threshold to match this amount.
Check the expiration dates on your credit or debit cards to make sure they aren’t expiring for your future charges.
Think about it like this: if you advertise on behalf of 5 different companies, and you are using the same credit card, then that card gets blacklisted, you’ve now shit the bed for every client.
Versus spreading out the brands you work with over different payment methods – it’s a bit safer to avoid an “ad account disabled facebook” dilemma.
Ad Account Disabled Facebook: Make an ad account active
When you have a situation where your ad account on Facebook is disabled, you want to look at it systemically: how many ads have been rejected in the past 30 to 90 days?
That may not help if you were shut down due to a series of smaller violations not told to you that added up to a Facebook ban. But it won’t hurt. Look at your most recent ads and try to see it from the perspective of protecting the Facebook platform from bad actors.
Anything come to mind when looking at your ads? Any ads seem more likely to lead to your ad account disabled, facebook still staying silent? Already completely banned?

Ad Account Disabled Facebook: Violating Content
Would it sound crazy if I told you Facebook doesn’t know the entirety of violating content?
Engineers at Facebook have literally asked me for help determining why the automations they helped create shut down funnels.
It’s all about how you look at it. If you’re using machine logic, it makes perfect sense why you were shut down: there are specific bot routines to establish patterns that are done.
If you’re human, it’s a little more challenging. But working with an expert in facebook ad policies can help if you’re in a “ad account disabled facebook” quagmire. (Also a good roadmap: What to Do After Violating Facebook’s Ad Policies)

What many ad agencies do, praying for a Hail Mary is contact Facebook Ad Support.
This can be very problematic because access to Facebook ad support really differs depending on which state (in America) you’re in.
And which country outside the USA. It may shock you but Facebook has different design layouts both for the Newsfeed and for the ad tools like Facebook Business Manager.
Facebook likes to AB test their layouts across various demographics across the world. Well – with these different designs also comes a different access to Facebook Ad Support.
The portal to access Facebook Ad Support will look different to someone in let’s say Spain or Britain than it will look to someone in Asia, or in America.
Leading to a bit more complexity when trying to reach a human to solve an “ad account disabled facebook” problem.
Another issue that arrises with Facebook Ad Support is their incompetence. They will often tell you things that will get you completely banned a lot faster because they have never run any ads for real money with rent, bills and clients on the line.
