How to Empower your Recruitment Pool with Values Alignment!
How to Empower your Recruitment Pool with Values Alignment!
Many leaders and business owners are now finding themselves staring at the recruitment pool wondering how they can recruit and retain talent in a post-COVID world. The way we recruit, attain and retain employees and jobseekers has changed and the old methods don’t always work. We have employees who now want to work from home, work part-time and who won’t stand for bad bosses, leaders or toxic workplace environments.
In order to keep our businesses powering along, we need skilled and experienced staff and employees. Having great, loyal, and skilled employees is vital to the survival of any business, and it’s important to attract employees who will work hard, are skilled and experienced, are open to learning new skills, will have a positive influence on the business and their coworkers. It can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to recruiting employees.
My advice is start with the employees already working for you. Start making changes within your business and making it a positive, friendly, happy, non-toxic, and motivating place for your employees to work. Only then can you step up and start recruiting more employees to join your team and take your business to the next level. Once your business is on track, your employees are happy and you have a work environment that is well known for its positivity, you will find more potential employees are flocking to you for work.

So, if you are ready to fish in the recruitment pool, this is where values and mission alignment come in and gives you great power when it comes to recruiting and retaining employees. Finding employees who share the same or similar values as you and your business is important, because when a member of your team feels connected to your business, your values, your purpose and your mission, they will feel motivated and inspired to achieve great things, work hard and productively.
How can you make sure your business values are aligned with your employees? I’ve got some words of advice for you here.
1. Create values that employees and customers will relate to
Decide on purpose, mission, and values alignments that your employees and customers will relate to, therefore establishing loyalty and connection. Don’t be afraid to change it up, it is 2022 after all. Make sure you write down these alignments and put them in the employee handbook or somewhere they can see them. This will help strengthen workplace culture and unity, as well as create positive working environments.
2. Make sure your mission statement is clear and concise
Values alignment helps guide the big and small decisions of your business, so make sure that your purpose, values, and mission are clear and concise. These shouldn’t be pages and pages of words, just a few sentences that describe what your business values are. This will make it easier for customers and potential employees to understand who you are and the mark you are making on the world.
3. Lead by your actions
Make sure you lead by your actions, not words or empty promises. Show your potential and incoming employees that you are serious about your purpose, values and mission. Don’t declare that your values are important to your business, and not follow through with them. Employees respect a leader who leaders by example, not words. Show empathy and kindness and show your team that you care.
4. Decide what is important to you
It can be hard to decide what your core values will be. The easiest way to do this is to think about what is important to you. That’s why you should sit down and have a think about your values and what these mean to you as a leader and to your business. Write down a list, what is important to you and your team, write down what you want your business to achieve, your goals, your business purpose, the kind of culture you want to shape, your business identity and your mission.
5. Help your new and current employees to understand your values
This is especially true when you are welcoming new employees on board. Make sure you make them feel welcome and show them how your values work within the business. Sit down with them and the rest of the team and have a brainstorm session. Find out what’s important to them – it might be respect, honesty, empathy, communication, or kindness. If you’re still welcoming employees back to work post COVID – 19, it might be an idea to get them to relearn the values of the business. With this feedback from your employees, you can even improve your values, purpose, goals, and mission if you wanted to undergo a revamp of your business. This will show your employees and colleagues that you take their feedback and careers seriously.
