Hire Yourself!

Hire Yourself!

It's labor day! Consider hiring yourself. Even if part-time.
I started my resume biz on the side prior to getting pink-slipped in 2009. Glad I had something to lean on.
My own personal experience, in addition to listening to others, confirms that a vast majority of corporate leaders really are lacking in leadership. There is a deficiency in identifying talent/skill. And, if you are talented, skilled, bright, and courageous, you are a perceived risk to the corporation. While unspoken, the hiring leaders actions indicate an increase in companies hiring status quo/rote executors vs. people who are actually thinking/pushing back in an effort to attain maximum performance.
"Its a 'paper towel' valuation on human capital; 'wipe your hands in the person and toss in the trash,' everyone is disposable." Tina Kashlak Nicolai
Don't underestimate your skills and earning potential. Save enough to get you through the first year or two of turning part-time into full-time.
The world is changing and job security continues to be on the decline in many industries.  The only thing secure is our own ability to rely on ourselves. What are you working on as your side business? Put your plan into action and stay focused on you.
If you have one part-time side business, consider a second. Multiple revenue streams are here to stay. Entrepreneurism is on the rise as is independent contracting.
You are your own corporation, the CEO of you!

Happy Labor Day!

Well put Pam. There are benefits to both. I'd like to see more opportunity for people in corporate positions to dabble in the entrepreneur world while also affording the entrepreneur to have corporate stability.

Independent contracting and being an entrepreneur has a sense of freedom and provides insight into what is truly happening in the marketplace. Working for a corporation can be more secure and fulfilling. Either way, the product or service being offered has to be in demand for financial success.

I agree. In the current and future workplace, we must be willing to be flexible and mobile.
