Getting paid to speak: How much is your keynote really worth?
That is the question we are trying to find out.
Last week, I launched the MicDrop Open Speaker Fee Project.
An initiative designed to enable keynote speakers to anonymously share how much they have (or haven't) been paid and by who.
The goal?
To create more transparency around speaking fees so thought leaders and keynote speakers feel comfortable charging what they’re worth.
We are building a database of 200 paid engagements and we're hoping to learn a few things along the way too...
- Who pays (and who doesn't)?
- What is the 'going rate' for moderating, emceeing, keynote speaking and training?
- Which topics are the most in-demand and lucrative?
- Who pays on time?
- How big is the gender pay gap for speakers?
- Do speaking rates differ across different countries?
When we have hit the 200 mark, we will share the database with everyone that's taken part so you can update your speaking strategy, optimise your offerings and… get paid what you're worth.
The results so far have been fascinating...
We've had 175 engagements submitted, with fees ranging from £150-£100,000 (🤯) from the likes of Google, Microsoft and Boston Consulting Group.
Now we need your help!
If you are a keynote speaker, thought leader or presenter, please take 2 minutes to submit an entry and share it with anyone else you think might benefit from taking part.

1yHi Alex, I'd love to see the results as I help people get speaking opportunities, and would like to put myself forward for some in future but haven't done anything paid yet to be able to contribute. Will the results be shared publicly? Thank you
Good to great for senior leaders in tech.
