The Future of Health is Together.

The Future of Health is Together.

That's why we've asked a bunch of our friends (and strangers on the internet...) to share their thoughts on what's coming next. We will be sharing their stories every Friday, using the #futurehealthfriday here, on Antwan Williams' Linkedin Articles, and @advancementleague on instagram. Share your voice: http://www.advancementleague.org/futurehealthfriday.html

In the very first Young Health Leader Summit, 2018's version in Lake Nona (Orlando), Florida, Christine Galligan - Operations and Marketing Manager Philips Healthworks immediately jumped in as a supporter - bringing her energy to both planning fun stuff for attendees before, during and after the conference (runs, yoga mornings, Disney meet-ups!) and her photography skills documenting the journey. We appreciate her craft, and are thrilled she joined #FutureHealthFriday.

What are your predictions for the Future of Health and Healthcare?

Our families will need us to step up.

We will work harder than ever to support our parents (likely from afar) leveraging technology and community health workers. We will operationalize the visions we have for assistive technology in the home. Gerontology and behavioral psychology expertise will be highly sought after as the population continues to age. We will face tremendous challenges due to environmental catastrophes and will rely on new sources of energy, both in our food, our cars, and our homes. We will become self-reliant and our social interactions will become sparse, if not digitized. While medicine is remarkably resistant to change, the ability to digitize any individual’s genome, etc. will undoubtedly reshape the future of medicine. Doctors will not necessarily know best anymore, and will begin to be characterized by their expertise in data science and will exhibit heaps of compassion. Everyone gets to play a part in future models of medicine. Structured environments and daily routines will improve moods and reduce confusion amidst change for those discharged from intensive surgery (which will be the only sort of procedures performed in hospital environments). The power of the people will become greater than the people in power. Quality will improve. We will no longer fear hospital-acquired infections or misdiagnoses. One dose will not fit all. Healthy living will become the norm. We will cure diseases, fight infections, and find answers. We will put the health back into healthcare.

What's the best advice you give?

“Be brilliant, be brief, be gone” … I admittedly borrowed that from my Dad, who I am sure borrowed it from someone else.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but be sure to give credit where credit is due.

Respect your elders. Ask them for their advice. Chances are, they have been where you are…

Question everything (like a 4-year-old, keep asking “why?”)

“I’ll do it tomorrow”, turns into two-three months quicker than you think.

Write, read, run. If you don’t like to write, sing. If you don’t like to read, listen. If you don’t like to run, dance. Keep your mind and body active.

Every night, write down three things you are grateful for. When you wake up in the morning, read what you wrote and start your day with a smile.

Speak up. If you don’t, who will?

Know your audience.

What projects are you currently working on?

I am working with a peer in recovery to start a podcast to educate health workers on the disease and reduce stigma. I have built out a 3-year plan for Massachusetts General Hospital’s Cancer Center to accelerate their response to the Opioid Epidemic, and am working now to increase the resources available in Charlotte, NC. I will be presenting on April 10th at the South Carolina Opioid Forum sponsored by Clemson University.

What are the tech tools you can't live without?

Grammarly! I used to call my Grandma to ask her where to put the commas…

Google Home. Keeps me current and on time.

Gmail. Might seem dull, but I really couldn’t live without it.

Adobe Creative Cloud

My Canon Camera. I have found so much joy in capturing life.
