Finishing uni and moving to Hong Kong...

I can’t believe a few days ago I hopped on a flight and arrived in Hong Kong, yet here I am writing from quarantine! I cannot start this next journey without saying thank you to the wonderful people I have had the pleasure to work and study alongside during the last 6 months. That being, the team at Pulp USU and ACYA USYD…

Finishing Uni

It has been an incredible experience finishing my degree and having an incredible final semester at the University of Sydney. I managed to turn my 4-year degree into 3.5years! Woohoo! Thanks to summer and winter courses, I was able to cut off a semester and this gave me the perfect chance to apply for a role in South China Morning Post Graduate Trainee Program. It truly seems that despite all the unexpected challenges in the last 1.5 years, while some doors may close, others do indeed open.

Pulp

I will be leaving my role as Editor of Pulp, but what an amazing experience the last semester has been! I have thoroughly enjoyed editing the work of our talented contributors, and managing our multiple social media channels, including our Instagram, website and Facebook. Some highlights include working with Doris Gao and Nandini Dhir on several video series! In a short manner of weeks, we produced and published created two very entertaining food reviews now part of a food series, Pulp Eats and countless campus vox pops, under a second new video series, Pulp Pops.

I also had the pleasure of running a podcast with the talented Bella Strauli called Pulpcasts- who would have thought in week 1 that we would have created a 7-episode series! It was incredibly fun and rewarding to touch on news and student life through an audio medium.

Of course, at heart Pulp inspires young writers at university to share their stories. Student publications give young people a voice. I am honoured to have been a part of growing Pulp this year and look forward to seeing it continue to take off!

ACYA USYD

The team at ACYA USYD has become my second family. I am extremely proud of the lengths we have gone to this semester, where we started from complete scratch in early 2021 to then build a society of over 100 members! From P2P to Career and Education, we collectively ran over 15 events in a swift 13-week semester and collaborated with several university societies like USYD Calligraphy Society and ACYA UNSW.

I really discovered that young locals and international students have a desire to engage with one another, learn from each other and foster strong relationships. It warms my heart as someone who is interested in Chinese culture and language, that I had the opportunity to engage with a society that is passionate about building a bridge between Australian and Chinese students.

I will never forget my role as the Events and P2P Director and it has been a true honour to have worked alongside an incredible executive team; President Benny Shen, Vice-President Angus Gilbert, Secretary Wivinia Kong, Career Director Shailene Wei, Education Director David Bartlett-Vowles, Treasurer Ellen Fung, Marketing Director Amy Su and General Executive Nicky Tkachuk, as well as our entire subcommittee team!

I will continue to cheer on Pulp and ACYA USYD from Hong Kong xx
