“Encourage”, the TIME is NOW and the PERSON who needs encouragement is IN FRONT OF YOU.

While growing up, ENCOURAGEMENT as a word/ action was always attached to good performance; bad performance always got you censure. The teachers, parents, relatives either saw a good student, who merited abundant encouragement or a bad student i.e. someone who was struggling( I belonged to the latter one), who merited abundant criticism and comparisons. Over the years I started to question the the logic behind only encouraging someone who was doing well, how did pulling down the student who was not doing well help? Post joining the corporate sector, I realised we carried the same mentality to work as well …and this is when I seriously decided that this clearly did not make sense. I learned from experience that when I addressed a mistake from a heart to “encourage” it brought out to the best in people. Over the year’s I have had actual proof of encouragement yielding best results with people who have hit their rock bottom. The logic behind this, is that, it is precisely when you are in your darkest space, that you need the tiny lamp of hope the most. Encouragement is that lamp, that flicker of light. As I gain vintage, in both years and experience, the phrase “everyone is fighting their own battles” has a new meaning for me…and also the reason for me to pen my thoughts down. So, I sincerely urge each one reading this article to go ahead “Encourage”, the TIME is NOW and the PERSON who needs encouragement is IN FRONT OF YOU.
