Employability Skills - A Challenge

" There are no Jobs available in the market." "Government in not focused on creating jobs for the youths of today." "Most of the companies don't pay as per our educational qualification". - These are some of the statement you get to hear often from the youngsters today.

With more than 15 million youngsters passing out every year, an HR in any company should be able to find the candidate for any vacant position.

Yes you read it right ! There are 15 million youngsters passing out every year, but are they employable in real sense.

Any youngster spends his 15 years in to educating himself only for a reason to earn a living. Armed with high education, these youngsters come to the corporate only to find their dreams being thrashed out. The reason - an unrealistic dream painted by the education system of today without arming them with the required skill set. Basic communication skills, email writing etiquette, grooming skills are certain skills which the colleges don't prepare them for.

Our education system/ academics don't prepare the students for the corporate sector. We @ corporate sector are looking for some basic skills along with the technical know-how while hiring fresh students.

Only 40.33% out of the 5.6 lac students surveyed were found employable by the People Skills report - 2017

Lack of interaction between the industry and academia came out clearly as the reason for the current situation with a simple majority of 54% of the respondents stating this as a challenge for higher education in India.

52%  of employer surveyed blamed the insufficient teaching resources for the same.

Many surveys, programs and initiatives are being taken by the current government o bridge this skill gap which stands as a huge challenge / hindrance for our country's development.

Its time we start concentrating on developing these skill sets right in the roots where it is required, otherwise time where there will total anarchy in the job market is just over the horizon.
