The EduLeader Lens: September 2024

At Instruction Partners, we’ve created hundreds of practical resources designed to help instructional leaders improve support for teachers, enhance student learning outcomes, and address a wide range of leadership challenges.

Below, you'll find resources for studying a new curriculum, setting a vision for professional learning, making data-informed decisions about reading instruction, and supporting multilingual learners.

Teachers want to know their leaders are familiar with the materials they’re being asked to use, and leaders need to understand the materials to provide helpful guidance and ongoing support.

Our curriculum study resource can help leadership teams plan and execute a learning session to study the design of a curriculum, including the scope of the year as well as individual lesson structures. This high-level understanding will help inform decisions around scheduling, pacing, teacher professional learning, and more.

Does your team agree on the purpose of PL—and how teachers should spend their PL time?

Most schools hold time for teachers to engage in PL, but the intended outcomes of that time are not always clearly defined or monitored. We developed sample processes to help instructional leaders partner with teachers to develop a clear vision for two essential PL structures: 1) collaborative planning and 2) observation and feedback.

Leveraging data from foundational reading assessments can improve students’ learning experiences and literacy outcomes. This blog post explores the uses and benefits of four types of assessments:

  1. Universal screeners (aka benchmarks)

  2. Diagnostics

  3. Progress monitoring assessments

  4. Formative assessments

This blog post provides an overview of how language objectives can reinforce foundational skills and includes:

  • a free and practical guide for leading programs that center language development in Tier 1 reading instruction and

  • short videos of instructional leaders and teachers sharing how they plan to implement language objectives alongside foundational reading skills.
