Data, Analytics & AI: Insight into 2020...
2019 has been an incredible year for the Oracle Analytics Community. We think 2020 looks even better [Spoiler Alert: there is a massive announce at the end of this post...]
First, on behalf of the entire Oracle Analytics team, I want to thank you for the incredible partnership you’ve created with us. You’ve shared your experiences (successes and challenges); worked with us all across the globe; helped your colleagues; reached beyond your walls to help others; and joined us in person at key events like OpenWorld 2019 and our first ever Oracle Analytics Summit at Skywalker Ranch in June of this year.
You are the community, and our perspective is simple: everything we do is for you.
You are the community, and our perspective is simple: everything we do is for you. We value your engagement and your opinion: in fact many of the changes we announced at the Summit and have implemented since were your ideas.
The Oracle Analytics Summit 2019 was a milestone moment that connected our community and gave us a collective chance to get to know each other and strengthen our working relationships. If you were at the event or wish you had been, read on: I have some great news for you down this post…
Our Vision for Analytics: What We Believe
Oracle has been in the data business for close to 4 decades. In that time, our solutions have adapted to offer you the secure and sophisticated capabilities you need to succeed. As the analytics industry is maturing beyond the self-service phase and into its ‘augmented’ era, our team has been focused on enabling you with the industry’s most augmented, integrated and collaborative analytics experience.
We believe that:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) will have tremendous impact on the analytics value chain by accelerating the path to better insights.
- New Interfaces will transform the interaction between people and data, increase data literacy and result in more value from data.
- Insights Demand Actions, and teams will rapidly move from working on ‘better looking dashboards’ to instrumenting more effective and integrated business decision systems.
Each of the above is supported by a large team of engineers who have been working on these problems for longer than anyone else in the industry.
The AI Imperative
This explains the depth and breadth of our AI capabilities: AI has been infused throughout our entire experience – from data ingestion to data management to the automation of insights. For instance, Oracle Analytics can automatically protect your data at ingestion time and it can automatically generate dashboards. Anything we do under the hood is open so your data people can rest assured that they can explain, trace and audit the work of our AI.
Interacting with Data in the Way that Makes the Most Sense to You
Oracle solutions address the needs of many personas. We understand data engineers because many use our database technology. We understand business users because many use our application suites. That’s why you’ll find that our analytics solution promotes voice, text and mobile – not just keyboards and pre-created dashboards. Our mobile application is the industry’s only personal assistant that uses AI to proactively generate contextual insights to its users.
Our work on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Generation (NLG) is some of the industry’s most advanced and few players today can match our breadth and reach when it comes to end user understanding. Oracle Analytics is the industry’s only solution that supports 28 languages. We are years ahead of other market participants and you can count on us to continue out-innovating the market. Whether your people speak Chinese, German, French, Japanese, Russian--and yes, even English - Oracle Analytics speaks their language!
In Business, Actions Matter
Every experienced business leader knows that business impact comes from action. And every industry observer has witnessed that, while most self-service analytics tools have provided more access to more people, many fail to provide decision support systems that close the loop to business actions.
Our team has been working on this problem for close to 14 years with a project called the “Action Framework”. This robust technology enables users to act on insights directly from dashboards or through embedded analysis.
So you can easily imagine a scenario where an HR manager identifies underperforming employees in her performance dashboard and immediately enrolls them in a training course without ever leaving her dashboard.
Often though, effective actions require collaboration within and throughout the organization. That’s why Oracle Analytics is the industry’s only solution that seamlessly integrates with Slack, Microsoft Teams, Messenger and other popular platforms.
We are committed to helping you fulfill your potential. Our teams have demonstrated leadership across finance, sales, marketing and human resources applications. Our understanding of these domains makes our analytics better, regardless if you’re using our applications or not.
Insight is 20/20: How Are Things Looking Now?
I’m writing this in December 2019. The end of the year is a time to reflect, and to look ahead – so let’s fast-forward to December 2020 and envision what you can expect by this time next year.

With your Oracle Analytics Udemy certification in Augmented Analytics and Advanced Analytics (both free!), you’ve also suggested ideas, voted up and down some of the suggestions available in our collaborative roadmap. You’ve also participated in the many Customer Advisory Boards our team runs around the globe. Finally, if you are a partner, you’ve joined our Partner Advisory Boards and have voiced the feedback and ideas of your customers to create a better future with us.
2. You’re engaged in a vibrant analytics community that supports your success. Whether it’s best practices and personal tips in our video interview series, Destination: Insight, implementation and success stories shared by customers and partners in our Drill to Details webcasts, Tech Talks from product and community experts or our Feature Friday updates, you can get the information you need by connecting to the community.
3. You know each of us because you can find us everywhere. In 2020 we’re at an event every month, along with many of our customers and partners. Come see us in action! We want to see you and hear from you and celebrate your accomplishments, whether it’s at the Gartner Data & Analytics Summits or Oracle OpenWorld in every region or Modern Business Experience.
