Daily Entrepreneur Failures, Wins & Insights

This morning while riding my bike I had an epiphany!

Previously I had been thinking about turning my weekly podcast into a daily show.

Whenever I think about the "how" I instantly get paralyzed by analysis. I think about the need to make the production absolutely perfect. This goes against everything that I strive to be but resembles so many other instances where I have stalled because I didn't feel I had the necessary tools to be successful. No matter the endeavor, I've always questioned the environment, time, and skills needed. Always

The truth is this...

In almost every situation I've found myself in, I said, "Fuck it, I don't know what I'm doing but I will figure it out". This brings me to the podcast.

The Podcast

I had no idea, the show would become so successful. NO IDEA!!! I started the show right before the pandemic and then all my speaking opportunities dried up. I wanted to start a podcast but I didn't know what to talk about. I love speaking to people so I said, "Fuck it I'll just talk to people I want to learn from." Despite the challenges we did it. My wife supported me and my crazy idea. We're now a top 3% global show. I still don't understand many of the inner workings of podcasting technology BUT we still managed to get people to listen. This show has been a game-changer.

The Challenge

So a few months ago I got the opportunity to interview Evan Carmichael WHAT!!!!!! Yup, you read that correctly. Evan Carmichael. If you don't know who Evan is, read the info below. I literally just copied and pasted it from his website. Sorry, Evan.

Evan runs a YouTube channel for entrepreneurs with over 3 million subscribers and 500 million views, wrote 4 books, and speaks globally. He wants to solve the world's biggest problem, people don't #Believe in themselves enough. Forbes named him one of the world's top 40 social marketing talents and Inc. named him one of the 100 great leadership speakers and 25 social media keynote speakers you need to know. He's set 2 world records, uses a trampoline & stand-up desk, owns Canada's largest salsa dance studio where he met his wife, and has a giant Doritos bag in front of him all day long to remind him that he's stronger than the Doritos. Toronto is his home. He's a husband, father, League of Legends Fan, and Teemo main.

What a cool dude right? Ok, now you see why I was so excited that he came on the show. So, during the show, I had some technical difficulties. My wifi went out!

I left Evan in the room by himself. As I tried to work on getting back in the show I started sweating and thought about the last time this happened. I interviewed someone I deeply respect, Mr. Blaine Bartlett. I forgot to plug in my camera.

It was horrible. The podcast was amazing. I learned so much from Mr. Barlett. How could I not remember to plug up my camera? I prepped for this meeting for weeks and was at the studio four hours early. I won't get too deep into this story during this diary entry but re-living that moment all over again made me feel like a total amateur.

Back to Evan..

I started sweating and thinking about every negative thought you could imagine from someone who already has severe anxiety at times. I took some deep breaths and BOOM I was back in. Evan stayed! Turns out, I wasn't gone that long. He was finishing up the answer to my previous question. He is such a good sport. Evan is the GOAT! I could tell he was familiar with the pain I was feeling. I was able to get in a few more questions and then we ended the show. Thank GOD!

Evan and I have a few similarities. The biggest is that we are both introverts that speak for a living because we want to make an impact.

I didn't pay Evan. He didn't ask me for anything. I don't even think he knew I had purchased and read both Built to Serve and Your One Word yet.

I then said, "How can we serve you"? He said something I had never heard before.

Click below for Evan's reply.

It gets good

Evan told me to turn my weekly podcast into a daily show. He gave me some other actionable steps to take but you're going to have to listen to the full episode **hint--> Evan episode is dropping next week!

Accountability moment

I blew off Evan's biggest advice. I've been working on getting everything perfect so that I can launch. That's called ANALYSIS BY PARALYSIS! I've been so focused on the logistics and excuses I've yet to don't the work. "I'm so busy! I can't go to the studio every day." EXCUSES EXCUSES EXCUSES!

I have a good idea

Ok, I got it! I'm going to document my journey as an entrepreneur. I've always wanted to be a creator that documented their work.

This is the first edition of my diary. I won't hold anything back. Stay tuned.
