Creating Sacred Space: How Preparation, Reverence, and Self-Care Shape Circle Work and Why it Differs From Traditional Coaching.

Circle-work is a sacred and transformative practice. It offers more than just a space for conversation—it invites deep reflection, healing, and connection. Whether I’m facilitating group Circles or working 1:1, the process is rooted in intention, reverence, and self-care—not just for myself, but for everyone who joins. This preparation reflects the depth of care that goes into creating a space where true transformation can unfold.

Setting the Stage: Preparing the Sacred Space

Before any Circle begins, there is a thoughtful and deliberate process of preparation. The physical space is key—I create a central focus or nature altar, carefully selecting flowers, natural elements, crystals, and other meaningful objects that resonate with the group’s energy. Every element is chosen with intention, grounding the space in nature, cycles, and our connection to the Earth.

But, it’s the deeper energetic work that truly anchors this preparation. I take the time to tune into the collective energy of the group, sensing emotional currents and discerning which topics and practices will best support the participants. This process is slow, meditative, and essential. It ensures that when the Circle opens, it feels like a container lovingly shaped for whatever is ready to emerge.

-Reverence in Holding Space: A Different Approach to Coaching

Holding space in Circle goes far beyond conventional coaching. It’s about creating a sacred container where every participant feels safe, seen, and supported. My role is not about leading or controlling the conversation—it’s about holding steady, grounded presence, allowing each person to explore their inner world at their own pace.

Speaking to peers, clients and colleagues, there is a growing sense that society has placed us in boxes that disconnect us from ourselves, each other, and the natural world. Circle-work dismantles these boxes, offering a space of wholeness and authenticity. In these fast-paced and often overwhelming times, we forget how to be still, how to sit quietly with our hearts and explore our inner landscapes. The Circle is an invitation to return to this place of stillness and connection, counterbalancing the external pressures we face each day.

And this practice is not just for personal growth—it holds powerful relevance in organisational settings too. Within businesses, Circle-work fosters genuine connection, creativity, and collaboration in ways that traditional structures often overlook. By aligning work with the principles of wholeness, cycles, and interconnection, we build sustainable business models that nourish both people and the planet.

Circle as Self-Care: How This Practice Sustains Me

Holding space in Circle is also a profound act of self-care for me. The rituals of preparation, grounding myself, and tuning into the energy of the group are practices that nourish and sustain me. Even though I’ve worked with embodiment and presence for many years, I still find moments when I struggle to “be” fully present—especially in these wild times of constant external noise, distraction, and the pull of social media. With the recent launch of my business, I’ve felt this more than ever, and it has reminded me of the vital importance of staying connected to my personal practice.

This past week, I’ve been particularly aware of how easy it is to become lost in the distractions, to avoid the stillness that is so needed. But it’s these quiet, intentional spaces—like Circle—that ground me. They bring me back to the wisdom within, reminding me to return to stillness and reflection, even when life feels loud and demanding.

This is why, even when I work 1:1 with clients, I always encourage them to participate in Circle. I can’t be with my clients all the time, but by learning to show up for themselves in Circle and in their daily lives, they develop tools and practices that create lasting transformation. It is in these quiet spaces of self-connection that the real magic happens. Showing up for themselves is where clarity, healing, and growth truly take root.
