CREATING A PODCAST? HERE’S THE BASIC EQUIPMENT YOU’LL NEED
The one question I often get as a podcast coach is, what equipment should I purchase for my podcast. So I wanted to address this in today’s blog post.
As we all know, starting a podcast can be a lot of fun and a bit daunting. The equipment you’ll need is one of the most important things to consider.
Here are the basics to get you started:
Microphone: A good quality microphone is essential for recording high-quality audio. Look for a microphone with a USB connection, which makes it easy to connect to your computer. Personally, I am currently using a Shure MV7 but have used others as well including a YETI Mic.
Headphones: Wearing headphones while recording can help you monitor audio quality and catch any issues that may arise.
Computer: You’ll need a reliable computer to record and edit your podcast.
Recording and Editing Software: There are many recording and editing software options available, both free and paid. Audacity is a popular free option that is easy to use.
Pop Filter: A pop filter helps reduce popping sounds that can occur when pronouncing certain words.
Mic Stand: A mic stand can help you maintain the correct distance from the microphone and keep your hands free.
Extra > Portable Sound Booth
Depending on where you are recording, you may want to include a portable sound booth, pad your walls with acoustic tiles or simply a moving blanket. You can also record in your walk-in closet which is how may podcasters start out.
By investing in these basic pieces of equipment, you’ll be well on your way to producing a high-quality podcast.
