Create Space: to Do More and Give More

Create Space: to Do More and Give More

What do you want to create space for this year? I’ll start, but I hope you’ll join me by pausing to reflect and commenting below what you want to consciously create space for in 2021.

This year, I need to create space for my mental, emotional, and physical health so that I can best create space for others. For most of us, work from home has become the norm, and while it has its perks, there has also been challenges. My personal place of comfort and solace got blurred with my professional life. At first, I didn’t realize that all of the screen time, back-to-back virtual meetings, and lack of physical reminders to pause for a moment or stop working, took a toll on my health. For example, when I used to commute to work, I would use that time to reflect and connect with others over personal phone calls. Now in the mornings, it’s hard not to jump right into work, knowing there are important tasks to get done and I have no physical barriers keeping me from doing so.

On top of being a bit burnt out, I had a health scare at the end of 2020. Thank God, everything is okay, but it shook me. Being forced to pause and deal with the issues head-on reminded me why I must prioritize my health because I have so much more to do and give. In 2021, I want to be more intentional about paying it forward. I desire to give more of my time, abilities, energy and resources to enhance and impact others’ lives. I can’t do that if I, myself, am not healthy. While I wish I didn’t need that startling wake up call, I 100% believe in God’s plan to use all these experiences for good.

So welcome to 2021. May the possibilities and hope of a new year motivate us all to purposefully create space.

Thanks for sharing Christine! My goal in 2021 to create space to reconnect with friends and colleagues that I have missed! Your point of blurring personal and professional life is so true! I never thought I would miss a car ride or airport but those were often the times I could catch up with other! Thanks for this valuable reminder!

This is a timely reminder and a great perspective of the importance of realigning our priorities and re-establishing our bounderies.
