Covid19 and Adaptability: The greatest test of leadership in a lifetime?
How well do you know your team, on a scale of one to ten?
Was that a guess?
Which of those team members chase change, with optimism and vigor, which of them hide from change, blocking every scent of its uncertainty?
Was that based on instinct or reflection?
Who thrives when offered the chance to learn a new skill, and who is confused and suspicious when you offer them this chance?
Did you make this one up?
Which of your team gives off subtle, or some unsubtle cries of adversity and fear, and where are the hopeful signals likely to stem from, or should we say, who will they come from?
Is that based on here-say?
Do you yourself feel a surging need to rethink, to unlearn, and to reset and re-configure?
I know the feeling.
You may think you know them, you may indeed have unfathomable levels of psychological safety in your work environment, well done. Please understand though, it's difficult to talk, to show fear, stress, anxiety, to want to help but feeling handcuffed by procedures and red tape.
Get to know them better.
Make informed decisions based on how, and how well, and how quickly your team deal with change.
Do they see it as a chance, an opportunity to enhance, perhaps even a glorious dance in the music of their careers and their life. Or is this, like 80% of people out there, the most challenging time of their career so far.
EQ is important, and will continue to be, yes, however, it's our AQ, our intelligence in adaptability that will define your leadership in one of the most volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous time we have ever faced.
Discover the AQ of your team, and of yourself, and be more prepared for 2021, than you, or any of us were for 2020.
And if you are a consultant or coach, with a passion for transformation, change, leadership or wellbeing, do please look into the tools and methods with the most potential to support change this decade; The AQai Foundation Certification.
If you have ten minutes, and you do, you really do (if you decide you do), discover why many successful leaders are joining the AQ movement below.
Gratefully,
Mike Raven
