Content Marketing is NOT Social

Content Marketing is NOT Social

More and more people I encounter conflate content marketing (the strategizing and planning of content to social platforms for brands) with social, so I thought it was time that I put a stake in the ground and say, "CONTENT MARKETING IS NOT SOCIAL."

Don't get me wrong. I think content is incredibly valuable and can definitely lead to social, but if that's all you're doing, you're doing it wrong.

Watch today's video to get the lowdown on what makes something social versus not. (hint: I've talked about it before)

Truly Social is a web series that you can share with your boss or client when they’re not really “getting” social. It’s also the name of my company — where we work with clients on helping them develop their own content series.

I’ve been working on this social stuff for over 19 years and I’ve been a participant in the social web since 1992. My videos (usually) come out every week …with ~5 minute “lessons” on what are truly social practices (and what are NOT).

First step of social: listen. Second step of social: contribute to the conversation. Third step of social: Keep the conversation going. :)
