Construct IT completes UK’s first electric brick delivery to wienerberger customer EH Smith Builders Merchants.

In a first for the UK construction industry, and in collaboration with partners Renault Trucks UK, wienerberger UK, and their customer EH Smith Builders Merchants, Construct IT has successfully completed the first ever brick delivery using an all-electric HGV.

Amarat Gill, Operations Director at Construct IT said:

With a strong focus to reduce carbon emissions both within the transport sector and the construction industry, we are keen to embrace change and transition to non-diesel delivery methods, where practical and possible.

This electric vehicle, provided to us by Renault Trucks, has been well received by our drivers and customers alike. Drivers have commented on the incredible performance and smooth operation. Whilst we understand there are challenges with range capacity, we have still been able to use the vehicle for full shifts, by planning it effectively. It's reassuring to see our customer wienerberger, working with Construct IT on sustainable practices and we have an exciting electric vehicle solution arriving in 2025.

The delivery using an electric HGV follows another first for Construct IT and wienerberger, after the partnership introduced a HVO powered vehicle for brick deliveries earlier this year.

Michael Clews, Logistics and Distribution Operations Manager at wienerberger UK, says:

Being the 1st UK Brick Manufacturer to deliver our product on a fully electric vehicle is another proud milestone in our sustainability strategy – Lets Build Beyond. In the race to reduce emissions, standing still is not an option and we must continue with our drive and desire to pursue new and innovative delivery options. With use of the fully electric vehicle alongside our dedicated HVO vehicle, wienerberger are now really pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the construction delivery marketplace.

Our valued partnership with Construct IT once again shows the level of commitment between our parties to innovation and sustainability with more exciting developments due to come in  2025.

I would like to thank Renault Trucks UK and the team at EH Smith Builders Merchants, especially Martin Walton and Jeremy Rich for joining with us in making this delivery possible.

Construct IT’s partnership with wienerberger highlights a shared dedication to developing more sustainable practices across the construction sector, shining a light on logistics and supply chain as a whole and not just manufacturer, customer or consumer.

Jeremy Rich, Direct Brick Operations Manager at EH Smith Builders Merchants, said:

As a leading heavy-side builders merchant, EH Smith welcomes new initiatives that help reduce carbon emissions in our daily operations. We are delighted to have been involved in the first-ever brick delivery using an all-electric HGV, in partnership with our valued supply chain partner, wienerberger.

EH Smith has a fleet of over 50 Euro 6 HGV delivery vehicles and receives hundreds of supplier deliveries each week, this innovative trial in conjunction with Construct IT and wienerberger marks a significant first for us. It sets a strong benchmark for a cleaner, greener future in logistics, aligning with our ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

We are excited to be part of this pioneering project and look forward to continuing our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our operations while supporting the broader transition to low-carbon solutions across the industry.

The Renault Trucks E-Tech T 4×2 vehicles are equipped with:

  • Six 90 kWh batteries

  • Three electric motors delivering up to 490kW continuous power

  • Maximum torque of 2400Nm

  • Renault Trucks’ Optidriver AT 2412 12-speed automated gearbox

The vehicle delivers exceptional performance for regional movements, with one hour rapid recharging and zero tailpipe emissions, proving that heavy-duty transport can be both powerful and sustainable.

Looking ahead, the trial will provide valuable further insights into how electric movements can integrate into construction logistics, setting a precedent for the entire industry.

We are proud to have played a role in this groundbreaking milestone for the UK construction industry!

Delighted to be involved in this partnership, let's hope it's the first of many 👍
