Are Cities the New Countries? What Solana Economic Zones Mean for Future Entrepreneurs
The Future We're Building Isn't Just Digital
Building the future isn't always about adding more technology - sometimes it's about reimagining how we organize ourselves as humans. This became crystal clear during my latest conversation - episode 40 of the Mizter Rad Show.
While many envision future cities full of AI sensors and facial recognition cameras, Babak Ahmadzadeh and his team at Forma are taking a different approach in Buenos Aires. They're creating economic zones where blockchain serves people, not the other way around.
Reimagining Citizenship and Mobility
"We want mobility for people," Babak explained during our conversation. "There are countries and people that are not just the 'invest to get a visa' or 'invest to get a passport'. There are people creating solutions where you can stake crypto to get your local residency for a pathway towards citizenship."
This hits close to home. As someone from Colombia, I know firsthand how a passport can limit your opportunities. But what if we could change that? What if your skills and contributions mattered more than where you were born?
The New Entrepreneurial Landscape
The implications for young entrepreneurs are massive. Think about it:
Location Independence: "Every country is competing to find great international talent," Babak points out. Countries are becoming more like service providers, competing for talent rather than controlling it.
Equal Access: As Babak notes, "Whether you're in Congo or Uzbekistan or the UK, you have equal ability to actually earn on the internet."
New Economic Models: These zones are creating systems where starting a business is as easy as downloading an app, where digital and physical worlds merge to create opportunities for everyone.
Building Inclusive Innovation
But here's what really caught my attention: their focus on making sure locals benefit first. No more tech bubbles where outsiders win and locals serve. As Babak emphasizes, "If you're doing something where the indigenous people aren't going to be as well off as you, you want them to be doing well as well as you."
The Rise of the Builder Economy
The entrepreneurship landscape is shifting. "More people are now clear that you need to build your own path, make your own products. We're back into more of a builder world," Babak observes. "AI is going to take away a lot of the traditional jobs... more people are going to be entrepreneurs, more people are going to build stuff."
Beyond Technology: A Freedom Revolution
This isn't just about technology - it's about freedom. About creating systems that work for everyone, not just the crypto experts or digital nomads. It's about building communities around shared values rather than geographical borders.
Maybe in 50 years, we'll look back at traditional nation-states the same way we now look at monarchy - as an outdated way to organize humans. The future is being built piece by piece, zone by zone, community by community.
The Call to Action for Young Builders
For young entrepreneurs, this means unprecedented opportunities to participate in building these new systems. Whether it's through blockchain, community building, or creating new economic models, the possibilities are endless.
As my abuela used to say, "you break an egg to make a tortilla." Sometimes we need to break old systems to build better ones.
What do you think? Are we moving towards a future where cities become more important than countries? Where communities form around shared values rather than geographical borders?
Let's keep this conversation going.
