Our world has become increasingly viral (lots of interpretations here).
While social media can be an extremely valuable asset to growing your business or influence, I’m afraid we’ve become a bit misguided on what it truly means to have authority - especially when it comes to using your authority to be more persuasive in your negotiations, growing your clientele, and making more money.
My brilliant friend Beate Chelette joined Negotiate Anything to discuss this with me. We honed in on what true industry authority looks like - and how business leaders can do this in an authentic and methodological way.
Beate shares her 4-step approach to demonstrating authority and securing clients, in addition to some very relatable tips on maintaining your power during difficult conversations.
Oh and before I forget:
Beate built and sold a company to Bill Gates.
Enough said.
This is an episode that you won’t want to miss.

2yGems overloaded in this one: Authority literally means being an industry expert not a viral sensation. It's a conscious approach to problem solving— which is what clients need. There's a reason why it's called click bait. "Engagement" doesn't necessarily have a dollar value, rather a conversion plan that actually works is way better. Give yourself a title that is congruent with your leadership style, character and personality. WIFM & WIFT should be well aligned. Try this order: Case, numbers, WIFT, why you're the right person for the job, because experts don't have to prove their value, mic drop. Also, feigning ignorance can give you an advantage in a negotiation. They'll get comfortable and you'll get your gotcha. Epic— "LOL is that still a thing?" and then take it off the books. I like that. 👑 🐝

2yYes. Social media can really fool you and provide the appearance of authority and substance, without the real goods to back it up! I'd like to think I've learned to spot some of the signs of posers v. the real deal . . .
