Can Hybrid Work #BreakTheBias?

Can Hybrid Work #BreakTheBias?

Back in September, I wrote about how the ongoing experiment of remote work could be extended to create opportunities for women. So, in celebration of International Women’s Day, let’s talk about how Hybrid Work can help #BreakTheBias in the workplace.

Over the last two years, we discovered something. We learned to embrace our new work-from-home, remote lives. We missed the office but found ways to connect with colleagues and work friends. We used the time saved by not commuting to improve our lives – adding in hobbies, exercise, and more time with family and friends. We realized there was more to life and discovered ways to balance and thrive. For some that manifested in the Great Resignation. For others, it meant moving to a new town to enjoy a different way of life.

I believe it was simply this epiphany: work is not where you go, it’s what you do. It’s the opportunity to have it all – live where you want, and still do the work you love. The chance to balance work with some in-office time and some at-home time. Or even build your daily schedule around your work style.

And this, I believe, is one way we can help #BreakTheBias. By adopting inclusive practices and technology, we can level the playing field and breathe new life into our quest for gender parity. We can offer flexible work practices, ensuring women have greater opportunities available to them – no matter where they are. We can open more doors and accelerate opportunities for women. And with inclusive #HybridWork tools we can create inherent fairness in work experiences among all participants – no matter where they are – giving everyone the opportunity to participate equally and on their terms. When you believe that work is what you do, not where you go, anything is possible... including a gender-equal world!

So today, when we celebrate women’s achievements, and work to #BreakTheBias, I want to say thank you to all the women in my life who’ve lifted me up. From learning that it’s OK to take risks, to learning to be vulnerable, to being there for me in my darkest moments, I have been blessed by other women supporting, mentoring, celebrating, and cheering me on. And that includes my mother – my very first champion, sponsor, and mentor.

I wish you all a happy International Women’s Day!
