About C3iHub

C3iHub is a Technology Innovation Hub established at IIT Kanpur (in 2020) funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under the National Mission of Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS). The current employee size of C3iHub as a Section 8 company is more than 120. 

Key Objectives: 

• Developing security solutions to protect critical CPS architectures of India 
• Providing security services to national enterprises/organizations  
• Facilitating research and innovation on CPS across India  
• Translating innovations into product commercialization through start-ups 
• Creating next-generation cybersecurity researchers and professionals to protect India's cyberspace. 

Overall Achievements in Numbers

Key Technology Developments in 2023 

Cybercrime Investigation Framework and Tool:  

Outcome: C3iHub researchers have developed a framework (and framework-navigating interactive tool) to apprehend cyber criminals’ tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) in a crime execution lifecycle to assist cybercrime investigators and law enforcement officers in catching and convicting cyber criminals. The technology is ready for deployment with Cyberabad Police. 

Blockchain-based Transferable Development Rights (TDR) system:  

Outcome: C3iHub has developed a blockchain technology-based TDR system to resolve existing TDR-related issues (litigations, frauds, etc.). The system will allow secure, transparent, and tamper-proof storage and management of the Development Rights Certificates (DRCs) in urban areas. The technology is under deployment with Kanpur Development Authority (KDA). 

Security Operations Centre New Platforms:

 Upgradation of SOC with  

• Cyber asset and vulnerability management platform  
• Risk calculation tool
• Compliance management platform  

C3iHub also installed SOC at BIT-Mesra in 2023

Security Audit Services in 2023: 

C3iHub has completed Security audits, including VAPT, Malicious File Analyses, and Asset Inventory and Patch Management with many Govt. organizations and enterprises. CERT-In empaneled team completed the cybersecurity audit with NHAI,13 major ports under IPA, MRPL, and an audit with Bhilai Steel Plant (SAIL) is underway. 

Industrial Partnership in 2023: 

• Tata Advanced Systems Limited - A Defence unit of Tata Group has signed an MoU with C3iHub. 

• An MoU was signed between C3iHub and Bhilai Steel Plant, SAIL, for cooperation in the field of Cybersecurity and related technologies. 

• An MoU was signed between C3iHub and Mumbai Port Trust for Cooperation in the field of Cybersecurity. 

Few Startup Success Stories in 2023: 

1. C3iHub's startup Trential Technologies, co-founded by Mr. Tanmay Yadav and Mr. Mukul Verma, has achieved a significant milestone by closing a US $2 million seed funding round led by Arkam Ventures. 
2. C3iHub's startup Treacle Technologies won the prestigious Grant under the Digital Communication Innovation Square (DCIS) Scheme by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. 
3. C3iHub's startup xIoTz won the prestigious iDEX - DIO DISC 9 challenge 4 of the Indian Navy on the problem "Development of an indigenous Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution based on open-source framework. 
4. C3iHub's startup Forensic CyberTech Machines won the prestigious iDEX - DIO DISC 9 challenge of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), GOI- Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) on the problem "Portable Mobile Forensic Suite and a cloud version." 
5. C3iHub's startup, T-Sanct Technologies, has commercialized a paid version of their new international product Falconfeeds.io, a cutting-edge cyber threat intelligence platform. They have 100+ paid customers since its launch in Sep 2023.

C3iHub Spotlight 2023: 

• C3iHub hosted the 3rd National Workshop on Technology Innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems, Organised by the Department of Science and Technology on 5th – 6th October 2023 

• C3iHub hosted the 1st Workshop on Cybersecurity Capability Maturity Model (CSCMM) Development, in collaboration with the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre NCIIPC (A unit of NTRO) on November 3rd-4th, 2023 

Eminent Visitor: Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy

Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, Founder of India’s Tech giant Infosys, graced C3iHub with his presence in the month of July 2023. Mr. Murthy, a renowned Technocrat and distinguished alumnus of the IIT Kanpur, generously imparted his invaluable insights during his visit. He embarked on a fascinating journey of exploration, delving into the intricacies of cutting-edge projects within the purview of cybersecurity.

Some other important activities in 2023: 

1. 8 R&D Projects and 13 startups are supported in the year 2023. 
2. Launched in April 2023, the large-scale Cybersecurity Skilling Program (free for SC/ST Students) has trained more than 10,000 students, and internships are being offered to the top-performing students.
3. C3iHub has trained about 600 individuals through ongoing cybersecurity skill development programs this past year.
