Black History Month at SpotHero

In celebration of this year's Black History Month theme, African Americans and the Arts, SpotHero’s Black Employee Network is excited to feature a few of its members— and their impressive artistic talents:

Barderies Hampton

Job Title/Department: Visual Designer/Marketing Medium you work/express yourself in: I would describe myself as an illustrator. - I work both digitally and traditionally. I use alcohol markers as a base and colored pencil for the traditional drawings that I create.

What’s something you created or worked on that you’re proud of? I’m grateful to say I have had so many opportunities as a freelancer, working on murals in the city, well-respected corporations and companies, illustrating children’s books, and being a part of so many exhibitions and shows. It’s honestly too hard to pinpoint one pivotal moment because I think every project I’ve had the pleasure to work on has led me to the next opportunity. I’m honestly just so proud of the community and the connections I have made along the way.

Over fifty artists collaborated with The Mural Movement to showcase the creativity of muralists and graffiti artists in the Pilsen neighborhood.

Rapheal Mathis

Job Title/Department: People Communications Specialist/ People Team

Medium you work/express yourself: Spoken Word Poetry

What’s something you created or worked on that you’re proud of? I have been writing/performing for the last 13 years. I believe spoken word poetry belongs everywhere, and have had the privilege of performing for non-profits, corporate conferences, colleges, churches, weddings, intimate gatherings, and even produced my own spoken word EP. Using the power of words to inspire and uplift people is an honor.

Megan McCracken

Job Title/Department: Field Operations Specialist/Revenue

Medium you work/express yourself in: Photography

What’s something you created or worked on that you’re proud of? So many different photos I could share, but with the theme of black art (specifically dance), I wanted to include a photo that highlights this beautiful, black dancer. Outside of sporadic lifestyle photography, I specialize in headshots and portraits.

Thanks for celebrating Black History Month with SpotHero!
