BJS Haulage embraces sustainability with Vertellus EV Discovery eHGV trial

BJS Haulage have taken a giant leap towards a greener, more sustainable future.

In partnership with commercial vehicle contract hire company Vertellus, and long-time supplier Renault Truck Commercials, BJS Haulage has commenced a trial featuring the Renault Trucks  E-Tech D Wide.

This trial marks a significant milestone in BJS Haulage’s ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and promoting eco-friendly practices within the logistics sector.

The Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide, an all-new 19 Tonne HGV powered exclusively by battery electric technology, will operate from BJS Haulage's West Midlands Hub at Steelpark Way in Wolverhampton, and join their fleet of already electric auxiliary vehicles.

Key features of the vehicle include:

  • Zero Tailpipe Emissions The D Wide eHGV boasts an entirely electric powertrain, producing zero emissions during its operations. This sustainable approach aligns perfectly with BJS Haulage's and their customers environmental goals and supports the global effort to combat climate change.

  • 264kWh Battery Capacity: With a robust 264-kilowatt-hour battery capacity, the D Wide eHGV provides the necessary power to cover distances efficiently. It ensures that BJS Haulage can continue to meet the demands of its customers while championing cleaner energy sources.

  • Up to 140-Mile Range: The D Wide eHGV is designed for versatility, offering an impressive range of up to 140 miles on a single charge. This capability provides BJS Haulage with enhanced flexibility for daytime collections across their local area.

This exciting trial underscores the commitment and dedication within BJS Haulage to exploring innovative and sustainable transportation solutions. It presents a unique opportunity to evaluate the electric vehicle's performance, energy efficiency, and economic viability within the context of real-world logistics operations.

Amarat Gill Operations Director, BJS Haulage, expressed his enthusiasm for the venture, saying:

"We believe that sustainable, electric-powered transportation is the future of the industry. Our partnership with Vertellus and Renault Truck Commercials for the trial of the Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide is a testament to our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and minimising the environmental impact of our operations. We look forward to the valuable insights this trial will provide as we work towards a cleaner and greener future for logistics."

BJS Haulage will closely monitor the performance of the vehicle, analysing data related to efficiency, range, and charging infrastructure. The results of this trial will serve as a benchmark for the company's future investments in eco-conscious transportation solutions, ranging from 3.5T vans to 44T articulated trucks.

Rick Edwards, Sales Director, Renault Truck Commercials, said:

“We are delighted to support BJS Haulage’s decarbonisation ambitions with its first fully electric truck on trial through the Vertellus EV Discovery programme. It is great to see one of the nation’s leading logistics providers putting electric vehicles to the test in real world conditions, and we are confident that this initial trial will pave the way to more electric vehicles on the BJS Haulage fleet.”

This endeavour aligns with broader industry efforts to embrace sustainable practices and reduce CO2 emissions. BJS Haulage encourages all suppliers and their customers in the logistics sector to explore similar initiatives to create a cleaner and more environmentally responsible supply chain.
