Azienda Agricola Brigaldara
Less than 10 miles north of Verona a beautiful winery is tucked into the hills of the Valpolicella DOCG region. I am so very glad that Marc Bergeron suggested this outstanding winery. When I looked it up, I found that I was already connected to the winemaker Marco Furia.
On a rainy afternoon we found the winery and Marco deep in the middle of fermenting the fall harvest. Marco led my wife and I into a room full of tanks, hoses and his staff busy at work (one person was in the process of pulling out the skins from one tank – pictured below).
One of the first things Marco did was bring us to a stainless steel tank filled with Soave that he half-filled a glass with so we could taste. Before going to the tasting room Marco led us through several barrel rooms so we could taste 4 different ages of his Amarone wine.
It seemed that one after another of his wines was better and better. During our tasting we got to meet the owner, Stefano Cesari, a 3rd generation of the family who has owned the winery (with 47 hectares of vines on 120 hectares of land) for nearly 100 years.
Pictured below are just some of the wines we tasted but I know that we will want more some were so well made.
Happily, we shipped a case of wine home that we are anxiously waiting to try again!
