The Attitude of Gratitude.....
In moments of extreme duress, we are told to focus on our breathing to ensure that we are able to centre ourselves, close our eyes and not succumb to the effects of stress. Adding to this is what I refer to as as the Triple-A (Automatic Attitude Adjustment)! Easier said than done in many cases! We are all human and we can only adjust our attitude after we feel the pain. By following a different sequence, we end up suppressing our stress, which manifests in some adverse form and affects our general mental and physical health.
To feel is human, to move on is legendary!
At such times of extreme duress, we should stop and create two Gratitude lists: G1 of each person to thank in our lives - family, friends, colleagues, strangers who have assisted us could be your Uber driver, a flight attendant, even our perceived enemies (you need a few of these to centre you) and, G2 for what we have in our lives - this should not only relate to material things and should include: love, learning opportunities, food, water, shelter, health, safety and the list goes on. This will allow the Triple-A to take effect. Building an Attitude of Gratitude takes time and practice. This simple exercise will yield results and will allow you to see things in a different perspective. Do not allow the keys to your mental well-being to be in anyone else's possession except yours.
I want to thank the following people for influencing my life thus far:
1) My family;
2) Swami Chinmayananda whose techniques have ensured that my mental energy is channeled correctly;
3) Deepak Chopra and the Power of Synchronicity;
4) Robin Sharma with his 3-Step Success formula and Mindset approach;
5) Vala Afshar for his authentic posts;
6) Gary Vaynerchuk who inspired me to write this and get this out there! I met Gary last week in Dubai, this is my first article and I wanted to publish this on Thanksgiving.
Thank you all for reading this! Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving!
