Your efforts had no count nor did you ever maintained a count of those N number of sleepless tiring nights you had spent in your office achieving the deadlines. And today you have no regrets on all the endless work you did to reach where you are because you just wanted to do it.
But did you ever question back:
- Are you still struggling with tasks you use to do before you got a promotion?
- Are you able to do all you desired to at your new position?
- Are you able to complete the entire checklist you strategize for a day?
- Are you still spending endless nights in your office missing to show the productivity which you have?
- Are you able to complete all targets you crave for?
- Are your frustrated and tiered completing your task and hence lacking creativity?
These are just few checkpoints for you to understand if you are wisely using the Art of Delegation which is a key for your success as a leader. Most of the times we feel delegation is just transferring of work or doing someone else’s allocated task. But in real meaning it means: “The act of empowering to act for another”. And empowering can be always done with tasks done by a role above an individual’s role.
So STOP doing the tasks your junior is responsible and start delegating your work to your team. Remember you would always perform their job role excellently but the reason to applaud for you as a leader would be when they learn all of your tasks before you move to the next step of corporate ladder.
Art of Delegation is not just a corporate process rather it is that key which makes or break a Leader. But the biggest issue is of our mind where we are fear to give our tasks to our team members. But we need to understand that there can be many benefits achieved through Delegation at a level of a Leader, an Individual or an Organization.
1. Learning Platform: It provides a learning experience for individuals and helps them to get prepared for the upcoming role they plan, dream & aspire to reach too.
2. Testing the water: Delegation gives leaders a clear picture to get the best people by making them test in the deep waters. Viewing capabilities of team members in the difficult situations which can arise.
3. Developing yourself: A leader is most productive when one has “Me Time” to think, innovate and develop around his thoughts. By delegation a leader prepares their team for working in their own ways and hence creates ways to make their own life simple in long run.
4. Building Talent: It is always demonstrating your-self first and then enjoying the perks of a designation. By delegation a leader prepares his people to achieve and grow in any landscape. And hence help in building talent for your own organization.
Hence Delegation is not just something which is going to help you make your dreams come true but help a lot of your subordinates to get bigger and hence prove your leadership.
So next time you plan to make a back-up for your responsibilities and set yourself more light to fly high remember few things to do and then sit and relax.
- DIRECT RIGHT: Provide right amount of directions to complete the delegation.
- TRUST YOUR PEOPLE: Avoid close supervision once task is delegated.
- RECOGNIZATION: Remember to recognize accomplishments once the team member completes the delegation.
So, keep on delegating and snatch your part of delegation to grow up to the next level.
Keep Delegating!

5yGood one, but the basic problem is people do not delegate, fearing that they may loose their importance or treat knowledge as their fiefdom. Keep it up.
