Ai Myopia
Last month, I was invited by Top University in Ahmedabad having 82 colleges associated with them to be panelist for the Student Projects.
I got chance to meet many of the brightest minds and some of them impressed me with their outstanding project work.
SMSCloud Hub is also part of few other reputed educational institutes and is in regular touch with students, incubation centers and other stakeholders.
This gives me opportunity to interact with students directly !!!!
The point which touched me was everyone was talking about AI (Artificial Intelligence), knowingly or unknowingly; Many talk with limited knowledge acquired from Online sites, few webinars, gossips and some from curriculum !!!
But good point was that everyone was talking about remarkable progress of Artificial Intelligence (AI) which is revolutionizing industries from healthcare to finance.
However, a fundamental issue threatens to undermine its potential: AI myopia.
This term refers to the short-sightedness or limited focus of many AI systems, which are designed to optimize for specific, often narrow objectives without considering broader impacts or longer-term consequences.
AI myopia arises when AI models are built to prioritize immediate rewards over future risks or goals.
For example, an AI algorithm used in a social media platform might be programmed to maximize user engagement by recommending increasingly sensational content. While this boosts short-term engagement metrics, it can also lead to negative consequences, such as the spread of misinformation or the amplification of divisive content, impacting societal trust in information sources.
AI myopia is a critical issue that needs urgent attention.
By developing AI with a broader perspective, society can harness its benefits while mitigating its risks. Addressing AI myopia is not just about improving technology—it's about ensuring that AI development respects and promotes the collective good, benefiting both present and future generations, typically when it starts with students !!!
We SMSCloud Hub Hub are working to address this issue by interacting with students, professors, educators, and Industry stalwarts.
After multiple discussion we came to know...
- Students generally follow the information they read online
- There is need of fostering collaboration among technologists
- Need to adopt broader objectives integrating ethical use of AI
- Understanding the societal needs of practical use of AI
Basis on our above findings we SMSCloud Hub have decided to provide students with opportunities to interact directly with the industry and find the impact of AI in the communication of Indian businesses.
and Ai1k.online is all about that!!
