Let’s start with the primary point that many people are simply unqualified for positions of leadership, whether because of their personalities, abilities, or work ethics. In some cases, people only pursue leadership roles to make money or elevate their status. At the same time, some people have the aptitude to be leaders but are never fully informed about what holding a leadership position requires.

What Is Leadership Philosophy? 

The philosophy of leadership is defined as the ability of a person to lead a group of people or an organization. The ability to implement strategic objectives, align people’s individual and collective goals, and continuously rejuvenate an organization are all examples of leadership behaviors.

Is Leadership Not For Everyone? 

Leadership can be for anyone, but not everyone can be a leader. Leadership is a learned skill; anyone with effort and interest can learn the traits of leadership. Further, knowing how to practice those traits and implementing them in the best possible way is a crucial part of learning leadership roles. 

One of the factors is the temperament of leadership. Not everyone has the temperament to lead people, it varies from individual to individual. Leadership will be an extremely challenging job if your temperament doesn’t allow you to move forward, lean into conflict, let go of the past, and hold others accountable. It will be harder and require more energy to exercise leadership.

Are Leaders Born or Trained?

People have been debating for decades whether great leaders had inherent leadership qualities or whether these qualities can be developed.  According to recent scientific studies, leadership is 30% inherited and 70% learned. According to these findings, leaders are created, not born.

In actuality,  both answers are true: a person may even be born with inherent leadership skills, and a person can build up these skills via learning. Whether or not someone is a “born leader,” they all have the potential to develop their leadership capabilities. Moreover, giving your employees’ leadership training has several  advantages. Following are the reasons which show why someone is not a leader:

1. When You Are Not Getting the Desired Results

Effective leaders deliver on their commitments and often go above and beyond. So, simply if you are not getting the desired results, then there is no leadership. Results require proper strategies and planning, and for that one needs leadership skills. 

2. You Are Getting the Results in the Wrong Ways

When you are not getting results as mentioned in point 1 and you try to get the results by using deception and treachery, then you are not a leader. Leaders do not choose unfair means. You may win a few battles, but you’ll lose the war if you misuse your power, treat people poorly, or mix leadership with manipulation.

3. Carelessness

Being indifferent is not a quality that makes a good leader. If you don’t care for the people you lead, you can’t possibly be a good leader. The true test of any leader is whether or not those they are in charge of are better off as a result of their leadership.

4. You Take All Credit

When a company succeeds in cracking a deal, the whole team deserves credit and appreciation. True leaders are those who give due credit more than taking them. The most effective leaders simply use “I” when taking accountability for mistakes. They also like to refer to successes with “we” quite quickly.

5. You Are Concerned About Your Status Not Your Purpose

If you prioritize your interests over the interest of the company, then you are not a leader. Leadership is about caring about something bigger than yourself and guiding people to a better place.  Power frequently comes with leadership, but true leaders are not motivated by power.

6. You Place People in Boxes

Show people how to do things instead of telling them about their inabilities. Leaders must break people free from boxes rather than putting them in boxes. Leaders help other people reach their destinations. This is the essence of true leadership.

7. You Waste Talent Instead of Keeping It

Effective leadership attracts talent rather than repels it. You cannot be a leader if you cannot find talent, develop talent, or keep talent. Leaders appreciate the talent of team members and trust in  their capabilities which motivates them to perform well in an organizational structure.

8. You Are More Worried About the Process Than the People

In an organization, a true leader has no power to lead without the people. If there is no platform for people and you prioritize other things over the employees, You are a bad leader. For Example, When a  leader is only concerned about the outcome of the objectives and not about the needs of employees causes frustration among employees. This decreases the level of passion and interest of employees and ultimately negatively impacts organizational growth.

Why are Some People Great Leaders and Some Are Not?

Many people think of themselves as a leader, but when it comes to carrying out the actual responsibilities they fall short of a leaders. So here comes why some people are great leaders and some are not. Some qualities differentiate great leaders from others. The following are the qualities of  successful leaders:

1. Great Leader Inspires to Motivate

A great leader knows how to inspire employees. They believe in their team members and motivate them. People become great leaders not because of their position but rather because of their capacity to uplift and inspire others. True leadership is about uplifting others. 

2. Great Leaders Focus on Team-Building

The common leadership mistake is leading people without building relationships with them. The stronger the team building, the stronger the leadership impact. Great leaders focus on building connections among employees and helping them fulfill their dreams. 

3. Great Leaders Lead with Character

Great leaders can be distinguished by their character or the essence of who they are as people. There is no title equates to leadership. The key to leadership is knowing who you are and expressing your passion loudly enough. 

4. Great Leaders Are Proud of Their Potential

Instead of spending too much time focusing on their mistakes, they take pride in their potential. They focus on how to make their mistakes right. The goal of effective leadership is to elevate yourself along with others, improve their output, and expand their personalities beyond their preexisting boundaries. For greater impact, leaders must take pride in their potential. 

5. Great Leaders Navigate Efficiently

Great leaders are aware of their knowledge. One of the most valuable skills someone can acquire is the capacity for understanding others. Knowing what your followers know benefits you in all facets of your life, not just leadership. Great leaders strive to improve their competencies in order to inspire others and have a greater impact.

Signs That You Might Struggle in a Leadership Role

If you are not a good leader, here are the signs which indicate the struggles you will face in a leadership role:

1. Ineffective Communication

The key to absolutely effective leadership is regular and open communication. A  leader must recognize that employees want to be included in conversations that will keep them on task, whether it be seeking feedback during meetings or routinely discussing the company’s direction with subordinates. These discussions could address problem-solving, professional development, or new company ventures.

So when leaders struggle to initiate conversation and lack frequent communication in an organization, they might struggle in leadership roles. 

2. Lack of Fairness

Lack of Fairness in an organization is one of the signs you might struggle in leadership roles. If workloads, performance assessments, or promotions are not based on merit, it can undermine the real purpose of true leadership. Unfair and inequitable leadership erodes confidence and the desire to prioritize organizational goals over personal ones.

3. Lack of Engagement

Effective leaders understand that engaging employees is essential to building trust. If the employees get the opportunity to interact with higher authorities, they will put their full effort to accomplish what the leader has prioritized.  Leaders who avoid interaction with their team are unable to develop devoted and productive teams and struggle in leadership roles. 

4. Ineffective Decision- Making

Timely decision-making is the core concept in leadership roles. When the decisions are not taken on time and demonstrate questionable decisions. This indicates the leader’s struggle in a leadership role. If the decision-making or problem-solving is left unaddressed, the organization will suffer financially, morally, and potentially publicly.

Everyone contributes equally to the success of a company, and everyone has the ability to influence others. However, being able to influence others or having effective self-management techniques is not the same as having the gift of leadership, especially executive leadership.

The key to success is to worry less about what you do not have and focus much more on developing what you do have. Leadership is not an innate skill. It can be developed and improved with time. If you want to be a leader, concentrate on relationships based on trust in order to grasp the fundamental principles, establish a solid foundation by having a vision and basic principles, establishing standards, and keep individuals accountable, you can make life easier and perform better.
