5 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself! #5 is an Absolute Must
As Lolly Daskal once said, “When you stop chasing the wrong things you give the right things a chance to catch you.” We all feel emotions like anger, frustration, discouragement, anxiousness and many more at times. These feelings are our mental blocks and we have to free ourselves of these. They keep us stuck.
In the process to transform yourself, you need to stop doing some toxic things that may be holding you back. Remember, we ultimately become what we repeatedly do. You can put yourself on a path to become who you truly want to be. Therefore, it is wise to look at what you should stop doing to not drive yourself to an unfamiliar place.
#1 Stop trying to please everyone
If you are always trying hard to please everyone, it will make you miserable and unhappy. In a Psychology Today column, psychologist Julie J. Exline emphasize on the difference between "being kind and helpful" and "being crippled by fears of interpersonal conflict" and if you are in the fear of interpersonal conflict ― you are one of the people-pleasers. Try to find a balance between pleasing others without leaving your own needs.

#2 Stop looking to others for happiness
Though, the purpose of life is not happiness, it’s usefulness. Being happy is still something that is important to us. When you are living conveniently, happiness will definitely follow. People, things, and other stuff can make you happy but until you are not creating anything out of your life, you will not have the complete happiness. When you start creating your life, it will add meaning to your life. You will slowly discover what really matters in life and gradually start pursuing those things. Create stability in your own life first before you start looking out for things.
#3 Stop trying to be someone you’re not
You must have been reading about: Become yourself, Be you. Yet many of you are trying hard to be someone you are not. The world may try to make you look like someone else, take a step back. Someone will always be better than you in their ways, they will never be who you are. Be yourself and the right people will fall for you.
#4 Stop comparing yourself to others
“Comparison is the thief of joy.” — Theodore Roosevelt
Social media is making people envious and feeling bad about themselves and their life. Stop feeling that you are missing out on something while others are having better days in life. Make your thoughts powerful enough to break free from the habit of comparison, getting away from jealousy and inferiority.
- Keep in mind life is not a competition
- Become aware of your unique experiences and gifts
- Pursue the greater things in life
- Appreciate and compliment others
- Recognize the good things you already have
- Look down at your past successes
Invest your time and energy in replacing your bad habits with good habits.
#5 Stop dwelling on your past mistakes
The feeling of guilt is overwhelming. It arouses anxiety. We lose many things in life, but the outcome should not be catastrophic. The solution is to move on. No matter what might slip away from you, you can still do something meaningful right away. Take every experience as a lesson and not let your bad past hold you back from moving on.
