The most important task for any Leader or Top Management Executive is to Add Value to the Products, Services, Brands, People, Organisations, Stakeholders he/she is associated with.
For Creating Value or Adding Value consistently, Top Management & Leaders now need to be walking-talking Media Channels in themselves. Here are 3 Major Reasons WHY?
1) Content Age demands it
The very first reason is very simple. Its the Content Age and we are all Content Beings, either Receiving Content in form of pictures, audio, video, words or Transmitting content. Literally everything has become Content - presentations, talks, meetings everything now falls in category of content.
Leaders are generating content offline consistently through all means of communication - verbal, non-verbal, written and what not.
Few months back, I attended a training programme on Story Telling & Story Creation. I took away a strong learning that Universe is not made of stars but only Stories.
Story Telling is one of the important tasks of Leaders. They are expected to inspire their teams and other stakeholders using stories. So You are pretty good at it already. All you as a leader need is now to start creating and sharing stories through Media.
Social Media is ofcourse one of the cheapest media to do PR, Advertising, Promotions & even build on your Brand or Company's Brand through your or your stakeholders stories.
So all you need to do on immediate basis is generate more and more and more VALUE ADDING stories for your fans, your employees, your followers. Imagine a CEO without a mobile phone these days (Warren Buffet may still be the exception).

Scientists have come to a conclusion we as humans on average have 37.2 trillion cells in our Body. In content age, each cell of our body is our own Audience, as it responds to each message that we communicate to ourselves consciously or subconsciously.
We become what we think. Now let us as Leaders connect the dots here. Leaders have teams who report to them. Each member of the team is your direct audience, receiving content from you all the time, good or bad content is all subjective.
Each employee in your organisation also looks upto you as a leader. Each stakeholder is likely wanting to follow you and your thinking. As a Leader, Entrepreneur or a Top Management executive the onus lies onto you to help build a better tomorrow for all stakeholders.
They wanna learn and grow through your insights. Wouldn't you want to add value to each life that crosses your path? When you generate consistent organic, your original thought leadership online you add value to society at large.
It helps your organisation more than it helps you. Because you are a representative of your organisation and if enriching content goes from your desk to the people who matter and who look forward to it every single day, wouldn't it do miracles to your organisation?
I was with a CEO couple of days back, helping him acquire the new competencies of content age. He told me he would like to avail these facilities in confidentiality and not with a team.
Because he needs to start from the scratch to develop the skill. He needs to build more courage and comfort to start doing vlogging.
I agreed, as I strongly believe thats absolutely fine, we all learn something new at one point of time and CEOs are no exception, remember they are one among us.
He took his own time to acquire the skill and is now directing his teams efficiently on digital age contenting that goes to social media on his behalf.
3) Content Competencies help you sustain through challenging times
Opportunities & Challenges are everyday affairs with Leaders. But sometimes unforeseen challenges can throw leaders off balance. When as a leader you are prepared with latest tools and techniques of communication.
You can keep building rapport with your stakeholders consistently. Today's audience or followers just don't believe in hanky panky, goody goody stories and motivation all the time.

We all need thrill in our life to some extent. We look forward to real time case studies. When leaders share their real time challenges online, how they are overcoming and seeking stakeholders opinions.
Audience feels engaged with Leaders and gives all the more support to the Leader or the Organisation in tough times.
One of the examples of Content age Sustaining through Challenging times is of Coca Cola. Coca Cola Obesity video has been doing rounds and BBC website shares some of the discussions on it.
Couple of years back I watched a video wherein Obesity rate in America was shared and Coca Cola took a major responsibility for it, as its soft drink has loads of sugar adding to obesity problem in people.
I felt as if company behaved ethically by taking the responsibility of it all. It was a major move for coca cola towards acceptance.
We all commit mistakes, we all have negative sides. After that Coca Cola didn't get out of business, instead it got applauded by many for its courageous move.
Though the adv was never shared on mainstream media, yet it went viral online. Coca Cola just shared its concern online.
That's the power of Digital Media and Content sharing.
It does not simply mean that organisations need to come forward and keep admitting their faults.
I am strongly highlighting here is that Leaders with Content Age Influence Creation Competencies will be able to sail through tough times having support from stakeholders, as they will keep them posted.
So to summarize, as a Leader, all you have to do is to gear up, learn & acquire Content age Influence creation & Building competencies.
You dont have to be a big influencer, having followers in millions. Each life touched will count. Be a MICRO INFLUENCER that is OK to start with.
Add value to your stakeholders, share your thought leadership consistently. Be brand ambassador of your organisation. Generate revenues for your organisation, while adding value to stakeholders Life, Work & Business.
