Why You Should Stop Judging and Start Joining #Millennials
For the last few years there has been a trend in blogs, social updates, slideshows, and all forms of media concerning the millennial generation. Statements such as Millennials hop jobs too often, that they are inexperienced and uneducated, too philanthropic and that they care more about their friends and home life than their careers. A majority of these complaints have come from the Baby Boomer generation- who seem to have forgotten their own altruism and attitude during their rolicsome and world changing youth.
Back in the day, 2013, I was the president of a fraternity. I began to notice senior members fearing the freshman class and their future impact on the chapter. New members didn’t ‘really’ understand ‘our’ fraternity and they wanted changes that made us uncomfortable. Uh, sound familiar?
As a recruiter I started to realize that these characteristics of Millennials were a lot of the things that the Baby Boomer generation once claimed to feel about their “Madmen” parents:
-
Feels stuck in their career path because they only have experience in one skillset
-
Feels miserable because they don’t like their co workers
-
The “machine of a company” they work for is driving them to the bones
-
Or the number one reason is that they don’t have a work life balance.
Now, as an insurance recruiter I spend a lot of time talking to some of the most skeptical people in the marketplace. In their defense they wouldn’t be good at their jobs if they didn’t spend a lot of time analyzing risk. If these people can muster the courage to take a risk, in full Millennial mode, can’t we all hope people will find a career they call home?
This why Hobson Associates excels as a recruiting firm. We place people where they will be happy, and grow. So if you are someone who is looking to expand their skill-set and find that work-life balance or just need a change send your resume to[email protected]
